Kaitlyn's been having an ongoing nappy rash for over a month and ive changed creams, nappy brands and all..can we put baby powder on top of the cream? did you apply it every diaper change because it sure is hard to wipe off..then i used an ointment that is clear..i wonder what works better..cause her bum is still red...i also had to avoid using the baby wipes and use warm water to clean her bum at home...any other suggestions??

Hi Lina. As its been going for a while now, its probably worth seeing your doctor just to check that there's no infection or thrush.

Ella had a spell like this where she seemed to have constant nappy rash for a month and it turned out to be thrush. I felt terrible for not getting it checked sooner as when I saw the doctor, he gave me a cream and within 3 days it had gone!

In the mean time try the following:

  • Don't use any soap in her bath - just water
  • Try to give her 2 or 3 half hour sessions a day with no nappy on to get some air to her bottom. Just lie her on some towels or something, then you can easily wash any leakages!
  • Use a mild cream at every nappy change - although don't worry if it won't come off like you say. Just fill in any gaps as it were!
  • Try to avoid putting her in tights as this can stop air getting about.

Really hope she's clear soon. Let us know how  you get on.

i had taken a different approach just to see what would happen..i tried the thick cream and applied baby powder over it and wallah..i guess her bum stayed dry and it looks fine..how does thrush look like?? does it look like blemishes..cause she has alot on her forhead and sides of her head.

Metanium is used in hospital for older people who are incontinent and is supposed to be one of the best. I use Drapoline every nappy change. My mum used it on my sis and I and we never had any issues with Nappy rash.

Please see the doc as soon as. If your little one's been given antibiotics for a reason they will need to finish the course, or at least be prescribed a gentler one. Not completing it can prolong any problems they may have.

Hope this has helped, Louise x
