I didn't know you could even buy books on weaning although thinking about it I guess you can buy a book on anything now adays. I am going to a weaning talk next week so will let you know if they say any good books.
It's all different since I had the girls we used to just get on with it in the old days

i always start with 1 or 2 spoonfuls of baby rice once a day then gradually work up to larger amounts after a week or so i add pure fruit or veg to it then gradually try the jars or things like mash potatoes and gravy hth

baby rice to start with, and mix it to a consistency he can suck off the spoon, and as he takes it daily gradually increase the thickness, but keeping it smooth. I tried Fred on baby rice for 2 days before adding pereed apple, he now has had (without baby rice) apple, carrot, rusks, bananas, and he's going to be trying swede soon! I weaned one of mine on weetabix, one on carrot, and the other on banana. It's trial and error, and so long as there are no lumps, they should take it, although the first few tries may mean you put the same spoonful in his mouth a few times, but hey thats what bibs were made for! lol, and you do need a good supply of them, or wash them frequently, on their own! carrot doesn't come out too well though! And don't feed them solids in their best clothes! They won't end up best clothes for long! lol. Have fun.

Neither of my girls would take baby rice and I weaned them both on pureed apple or pureed pear. I will probably get baby rice again to try Ollie on. I am thinking of weaning him in the next few weeks as he has started to follow every mouthfull we are eating and was doing a goldfish impression this morning when I was eating a banana so I would say he is just about ready now. He's 13wks today.

Awww Ollie the wee goldfish! My friend put her dd on solids at 5 wks - seems a bit early! I'll try 3-4mths with Roan- he still seems ok on SMA Gold at the mo.
