Nicky the way I see it is to let your little one lead you. Girls are supposed to be EASIER to train than boys but obviously all children are different. I only have a 13 month old bu friends have told me they waited until there little one showed an understanding of what was happening and a discomfort at being in a wet/dirty nappy. Star/Stciker charts can be very successful also in helping.

I have a potty I leave out for my son and sometimes he does sit on it and wee or poo but is far too young to fully understand what he is doing.

Dont force the issue - if you try and your daughter doesnt seem ready leave it for another few months. Good luck! We'll all help you where we can!

Taylor was exactly the same, which made potty training so much harder. One day i left his nappy off for a while and he went for the potty, and done a wee. So i started following him around with the potty when his nappy was off, lol.

I did put him on the potty a few times b4 just to get him used to it, but he done it on his own.. i didnt pressurise him in to using the potty till he was ready and i think that helped a lot.

i'd always read that girls were s'posed to be easier to train than boys.  my eldest son was 2 when we started training him.  he would 'hold' himself just before he went to wee which was a good enough sign for me.  of course, he's had accidents (especially when he becomes over-excited) but considering we started in january he's doing really well. now he tells me he wants to wee and goes to the toilet by himself!!  i recommend you wait until your lo shows you signs they're ready, otherwise you could have a long battle on your hands.

another thing i've noticed is that girls tend to use the potty at first, but boys go straight to the toilet.  this is generally speaking and not the case for everyone, but it's something i've noticed with my friends' los.
