Hello folks! My name's Briony and I'm mum to 2 girls; Lois & Brianna (nearly5 & nearly2).

I'm at work* at the moment, so I can't chat for long - but I WILL return via my home pc, ASAP!

*I volunteer once a week at Meningitis Research Foundation; in the fundraising dept. Because meningitis & septicaemia affect so many children & families, I'm lucky that my work includes surfing the internet for parenting sites to join! HOORAY! I like the look of this one!

TTFN, B.x

Wow! What a lot of replies already!

Thanks all, for making me feel so welcome.

I had bacterial meningitis myself; 5 years ago. The reason I love working at Meningitis Research Foundation, is that as a teenager I carried one of their Symptoms Information cards. Although that card has long-since been lost/binned (?!), I memorised all the info on it. Consequently, I recognised my illness, alerted my husband, gave him a glass tumbler (!), and then he called an ambulance when my condition deteriorated rapidly. The rest is history!       Who knows - thanks to that info-card, I might not be here today!

He didn't actually believe me at first when I told him my diagnosis!

B.x

I'm not making this up: I said to dh, "I think I've got meningitis." He replied, "Don't be silly!" To which my response was, "Don't worry, I've got clean knickers on!" I KNEW I'd end up in hospital!

Seriously though, if you have any queries on these diseases, please take a look at www.meningitis.org or Freefone our 24hour Helpline on 080 8800 3344.

Remember, trusts your instincts. Someone who has meningitis or septicaemia needs medical help urgently.

Sorry if I sound like I'm on a soapbox! But as I once read on a fortune cookie, "Education will never be more costly than ignorance."

TTFN, B.x
