Do your little ones feed themselves now?
Ella is 13 months and will happily eat sandwiches, toast etc on her own. She'll eat other finger foods too and will hold a banana to eat on her own. She's started to show an interest in using the spoon now too... which is messy!
I don't expect her to be able to feed herself fully, but as she's showing an interest, has anyone got any tips so I can encourage her. I let her hold a spoon and if I put some food on it, she will sometimes put it in her mouth, sometimes on her head, sometimes flick the food at my head! But today for example, she wouldn't eat her fruit pot unless I let her put the food in her mouth.

Ellen eats finger foods all on her own no problems but she has shown no interest in feeding her self with a spoon. She just wants me to do it or she just ignores it. I too give her a spoon and her bowl but she aint interested at the mo. I will be curious to know how to encourage her too.

Lily is doing this too just now and it can be a nightmare!!!!
Letting them hold the spoon is a good way of encouraging them and I have found using the bowls with suckers on the bottom is a good idea as it stops it flying all over the place. Erm not sure what else to suggest hun sorry!
Just let her get a feel for it and she'll be munching away herself in no time I'm sure

hi hun good luck with this...im lucky coz megan can actually spoon feed herself quite well..she dribbles a lot thats all...but she finger feeds herself and spoon feeds her own yoghurt and cereals, we just kept giving her a spoon and showing her that spoon goes in pot, then in mouth...she got the idea pretty quickly and now wont let anyone feed her! It is very messy until they get the hang of it, and i do remember rice crispies going everywhere as she was tipping the spoon to soon lol....persist with the spoon and tell her how clever she is when she does it, she will soon pick it up...hope that helps xxxxx

your doing just fine. that's all you have to do... let her hold a spoon whilst you feed her with another spoon. but have a break for a min every so often so she can put her spoon in her mouth.it takes a few wks but she will soon learn to dip the spoon in and put it to her mouth. now my dd 14 months is getting the hang of it more i give her 2 spoons and leave the bowl infront of her whilst i eat my food then she manages a few mouthfulls. when i have finished my food i take 1 of the spoons off her and feed her .

Im with fee..DUCK lol All you can do is let her try babe, It is so messy at first but it is the only way of learning. Put a mat under the high chair or table and away you go. At mealtimes I let Joshua use a spoon and do some but I did some to make sure he was well fed, but during snacks and definitely for puddings he was on his own. It didnt take him long at all, he was using spoon and fork properly when he started nursery so that would have been about 14/15 months.

svannah feeds her self independantly now and wont let me feed her at all! she still sometimes misses and turns the spoon/fork upside down b4 it reaches her mouth! she also likes to throw food all over the floor and at me!
if i remember correctly it only took her a few weeks of encouragement b4 she was feeding herself properly! so carry on with ella and she will be there in no time!

My tip would be get a large plastic mat, move Ella away from the towel rail, cover yourself from head to toe in plastic and let her go for it . I am not sure it has even occured to Ols yet that he could hold the spoon himself and put the food in his mouth. He happily eats finger foods. The bowls that stick to the table are a good idea if you don't want the whole dinner tipped on the floor in one go. I also find a dog handy as I don't have to clean the floor so often just let them do it

Ed had stopped eating food off a spoon because he wanted to be more independent - he loves eating his finger foods and I had to become very inventive to make sure he got all his food groups from finger food.
Now I let him 'help' with his yogurts and cereal - I have a tommie tippie mat that goes on the tray and the bowl sticks to it with is fantastic! He needs help but he is so proud when he does it himself! It is very messy though.
