I know we've done similar polls for different reasons, but since reading the news article on the front page - Too Many Women having Cesareans - I wondered what the ratio was amongst us Madmums?

I had an emergency c-section due to failed induction and due to Ella being stuck. At my antenatal class re-union, I was the only one out of the 15 mums there! That said, another of the mums who I've since met had an emergency section, so that's 2 that we know of.

Of all the Mum's I've met who had their babies around the time I had Ella, or work friends who were pg at the same time as me, there are very few who have had sections.

This is a multiple vote poll for those with more than 1 lo. Would be interested in your experiences.

If you had an elective c-section out of choice but not on medical grounds, would be interested why, not to judge you as I think that every woman should be able to have the kind of birth that she wants, but just for the sake of the poll.

Thanks!

voted natural delivery twice.

both were similar deliveries: gas and air (yummy) and a shot of pethidine in the butt to take the edge of the pain.

i was adamant that i wanted a natural delivery (both times)-very squeamish lady so the idea of cutting me was a big no no.

would've done if no choice though, of course.

I have voted natural twice.  I had Rachel on gas and air on an 11hr 7min labour and i had Jack with no pain relief at home as i was in slow labour for a week dilating a cm a day at home and then once in hospital just gas and air again.

Love Trudi.  xx

I Have voted 3 times. My daughter Kirstin was an assisted foceps delivery with a 3rd degree tear. My Son Gregory was an emergency c-section as my waters had broken and I was passing meconium (not sure of spelling) and finally Harry was an elective c-section as I have so much scar tissue from the other 2. I was allowed to choose and the decision was primarily mine but it was on medical advice. Considering my age and the possibility that I could have gone into labour and still needed a c-section, I opted for an elective one. I have voted that it was for medical reasons which it was but it was still the best birth of the lot.

I voted natural twice.

With Taylor i had gas and air plus diamorphine (good *e!)

With Sophie i started off with gas and air but got annoyed with it, so eneded up using nothing for the pain (which hurt)... even tho the mw was trying her hardest to give me pethadine!!
