Ok... so Sophie has a cold, bless her (bloody big brothers!!)
Anyways, i asked the mw today if i could use anythin as she is strugglin to breath, like snufflebabe, karvol etc.. she said snufflebabe would be the best one to use for her age. So off i went to boots and looked at the packaging, it says for 3 months and over. I also looked at boots own brand (yes im a cheap skate) and its got exactly the same stuff in it and its also 3 months plus.. i decided to get the boots one anyways as im sure we will use in in the future...
Im not sure if i should use it now tho, she really does need somethin to clear her iccle nose, u can hear her breath really loudly.

We used Karvol from Rachels and Jacks 1st colds we just used a little of it. We had a fab dummy where you stuffed cotton wool with the smelly stff in one end and then baby sucked the other end and they breath in the smelly stuff.

When I had my eldest there was so much available to use from birth, and now, they say not til 3 months. It's to cover them in case something happens to lo! I used karvol with mine, but you put it on a tissue out of reach of baby, and baby should be fine. I guess I've got all this to come again!
Besides that I have no idea, unless you put olbas oil in a bowl of warm water next to her crib!

I was just going to say how about a bowl of hot water under her crib. Im sure if the midwife has snufflebaby is ok then it will be just fine to use babe. Like Vix said they just like to cover themselves. Be careful not to get in on her face or near her eyes and Im sure a little bit will be just fine. Have you tried those karvol plugs? They are not cheap at first but they really do help los at night time when they are chesty. I swore by our plug-in with joshua whilst he was little.

You know how a really good sneeze really clears a baby's nose?
Well here's a great tip I read so long ago, that I can't remember where it came from: Have a lovely soft hanky ready, then tease the end of a cotton bud so there's a long whispy bit.....gently tickle the inside of your baby's nostril with the cotton and, hey presto!! (or hey atchoo!!) - Empty sinuses!
Safety note: cotton buds should never normally be inserted into noses or ear canals, but this was text-book advice, and only the whispy cotton must go up - so make sure the stick can't accidently follow in any way. (Obvious statement I know, but it needs to be said!)

We used Karvol for Rachel first cold, I think she was about 9 or 10 weeks old. The gp also recommened us to have the shower running until the room got nice and steamed up and bring her into the room.

Isla had a lousy cold when she was just under two months old, thanks to her big sister bringing one home for her from school. My mate round the corner was a nurse, she gave me some snufflebabe said it was fine to use...also to put a pillow under her mattress to raise her angle a bit so that she wasn't lying flat, to help the mucus (yak) move so she didn't get even more bunged up. Don't raise her to high, but just enough so that her head is slightly raised.
