starring tom hanks, sir ian mckellen and paul bettany.

went to see this last night with dh.  i'd read half of the book so went not knowing how it was going to end, but found myself comparing it anyway.

thought the storyline was very controversial about jesus and the holy grail and a secret theory, the acting mediocre and the pace pleasant.  lots of action and twists and turns, but abit dull if you've read the book.

sir ian mckellen was brilliant (as always, in my humble opinion), and the locations (lots of stunning churches and cathedrals-on of which was lincoln cathedral) were breathtakingly beautiful.  nice soundtrack from hans zimmer too.

3.5 out of 5 from me!

The book is very good as a story.  If you read it as fact then you have been sucked in as Dan Brown hoped you would be.  He very cleverly mixes fact with his fiction.  If you have any theology background it puts some different twists and makes you think.  I would reccomend the book if you want an entertaining read.  Not seen the film myself I really like Tom Hanks and Ian Mckellen but Tom Hanks just isn't Richard Langdon or how I imagine Richard Langdon to look like and act.

i agree with what you said about tom hanks...he looks so old in the film too, older than i imagined the character to be and not as dashing-lolol.  sir ian mckellen could play a bin bag and still be outstanding (in mho).  that man has such charisma.

i knew nothing of the 'theory' behind the book, but i had seen a documentary on national geographic based around the templars and the holy grail (as discussed in dan brown's book) and was completely bowled over by it.  the 'evidence' is very strong, and convincing and this film/book does get you thinking about theology from a different angle.

i also remember reading in the paper that westminster abbey/st paul's cathedral forbidded any film production to take place in and around it's premises for reasons of blasphemy so the crew opted for lincoln cathedral instead (my home turf).  the local rag there reported that one solitary nun sat on the cathedral steps in protest-bless her.  needless to say her protest was heard but not acted on!!

When they film the Harry Potter films at Gloucester Cathedral there is always a huge demonstration against it.  I do like Lincoln Cathedral though so may watch the film just for that, speant many a day whiling away time there.
