hello ladies, my hv has recommended expressing milk coz liam is always hungry and i need a break...i want an electric pump coz i have hypermobility and i cant even use a tin opener coz the motion is too repetitive...but im really baffled coz there are soo many, but i like the sound of the isis iq pump, just a big downfall is its price! I cannot affotd £80 for one, and i thought as liam drinks from avent bottles it wud be ideal...Any views or recommendations welcomed, but i wud like one cheap and one that will fit the avent bottle...Thanks ladies xxxxxx

Have you tried e-bay.  As long as you thoroughly sterilised the pump it would be fine to buy one second hand.  I bought my Ameda dual pump second hand and it's been great (thanks busydoc).  I think the Isis is the only breast pump that does wide necked bottles the madela and Ameda are both smaller bottles.  The only other thing to do is to use the bottles on the breast pump and then empty them into an avent bottle would mean more sterilising.  I also use the Boots freezer breast milk bags which are really hand too.

I used the medela mini electric pump, and found it really good. It only does narrow bottles, so like sam said, I used to transfer the milk to the avent bottles as that was what I was using at the time.

The only thing I didn't like about it, was that it didn't have the cushioned bit round the top like the avent isis one has. When I used the hospital pump, I got on brilliantly with it because the cushioned bits at the top simulated the sucking pressure on the nipples, where as without them, its just a pump pulling the nipple back and forth.

If I have another, I'd definately get one second hand off ebay, and just make sure it was sterilised well. Having the pump kept Ella on breast milk a week longer and had things been different, I'd have persevered with the pump's help.

They're so easy to clean nowadays too - so I'd def recommend looking 2nd hand to get the model you want.

hth xxx

I agree with dizie about the lack of pad but i didnt find it uncomfortable and it was much faster than the hand pump i tried and failled with!

Good luck sam!
