I have really really really tried to get my lo to chew but she refuses, she gaggs and spews up and cries and refuses to eat any more.

she has been on puired food since she was about 20 weeks old.

She will eat off my plate and chew no problem, but I give her the food with my fingers (clean of course).

I have given her jars of food with lumps, done my own food with lumps, added very small pieces of soft food in with her favourite jared food, nothing seems to work.

I know I sound a bit dramatic but I really feel like a bit of a failure when it come to my dd and food.

She is just so hard to feed and now that she is 10 months and won't eat lumps.....where do I go from here.

Ryan was always better with finger foods as soon as he could hold stuff

If shes taking things off ur plate & chewing fine then maybe shes just not wanting to b spoon fed. Ryans almost 15 months & still spits out the lumps in baby jars

Try her with various finger foods to get her chewing maybe at lunch time & just puree down her meal at dinner. As long as shes getting a variety of different foods i dont think it matters to much if its lumpy or not

I wouldn't worry too much as she is only 10 months. Sometimes Harry likes lumps other days he can't be bothered with them. He loves things he can hold and eat by himself. As long as she is eating a variety of foods with different  textures she will soon get the hang of lumpy food.

Ellie is 16 months and won't eat lumps out of a jar...she quite often spits lumps out of the food I've made her too..

have you tried her with fishfingers, chicken nuggets, strips of ham, mini sweetcorn, breadsticks, stuff like that?  She'll get plenty of practice in chewing those..

or put the lumpy food that you want her to eat on your plate and pretend to eat it, and give her mouthfuls and see how you go..?

maybe she is ready to have a go herself if she is quite independant?  give her a spoon and you have one too and shovel it in while she is trying with the spoon?

You're not a failure at all..really!  Ellie has barely eaten anything for a couple of weeks and I think it's just a phase..she seems to do it every now and then..

good luck

Don't feel like a failure, all lo's are different i have a ds who eats nothing for days at a time and a dd who eats everything and anything.
I used to worry that ds would starve, as it was lumpy food that caused him to gag and refuse food altogether, but he is now 3 and doing fine, still a fussy eater but that is just him.
Dd didn't like lumpy food at first, but with-in about 3 months of trying she eats everything.
I never thought lo's could be so different but my 2 certainally are.
Keep going with the lumpy food i am sure she will do it soon
