I attended a breastfeeding workshop before thomas was born - the
midwife was an absolute disaster and could answer any questions us
new mums to be had.
The ater thomas was born, i didn't have a clue but was determined i
was going to breastfeed.
Our health centre didn't have a support group, so i plodded along.
If i had any questions i asked the expert - Lynie !
She was a god send. I was about to pack it al in when thomas was
about 10 weeks because he wouldn't stop feeding and if it wasn't for
Lynie - i would have given up.

So i want to be able to offer that type of support to other new mums.

Right, when I have another baby I want Lynie, Rhona and MumSam to come and move in with me for a month!! You can all bring your los!

I wish that I'd had some support when I was feeding Ella. I won't bore you with the details but I was basically told something different from each midwife I saw and I got in a complete mess. Ella lost a lot of weight and I was talked into stopping and I wasn't in a very good place to start fighting back.

Do you have any contact information for breast feeding support groups nationally?

Well done you 2 - thats brilliant!

Aww Rhona!!!!

The course starts on the 30th August and runs for 8 two and a half
hour sessions.

We actually have a brilliant breastfeeding support group locally here
in Wishaw- it was set up as our area encompasses some of the most
deprived areas in Scotland and therefore has one of the worst rates
of breastfeeding uptake in the whole of the UK. The group has been
so sucessful the Scottish Exectutive have been looking to roll out the
programme to the rest of Scotland following the example and format
of the Wishaw group. (There's a pic in my profile of me and Emilie
going to meet the Scottish minister for health with other mums from
Wishaw in the Scottish Parliament when she was only a few weeks
old!) This would also mean more funding for existing groups. One of
the best features of the group in Wishaw is that they offer an ironing
service for mums during the first 8 weeks of the baby being born.

It sounds very similar to the course I did.  The one I attended ran for 4 weeks for 4 hrs a day.  It was very interesting.  We even had a rubber boob to play with that actually expressed milk!!  The support group here is called Breast Friends and they also have a drop in morning at one of the local day care centres where there are always 2 mw's in attendance and you can just pop in and chat or get advice.  We offer phone support or one on one support.  I really enjoy doing it and having experienced problems with feeding my first to then feed Fran for 3yrs and still to be feeding Ols at nearly 17mnths I really enjoy supporting other Mums.  Sometimes you don't even have to do a lot other than listen and say yup that's normal....

I hope you both enjoy your experience and get a lot from it.  We should set up our own support team lol
