I'm extremely nervous.  Finaly getting it put in on Monday, after lots of waiting for my period.  Anyways it has stopped as I got my period 2 fridays ago.  I called the Dr on Mon morning and asked to have it out in that week.

Then the blasted receptionist had no idea what I was on about and ended up putting me on the phone with the nurse.  She said I needed a prescription which the Dr I saw should have given me.

I think it may be a painkiller for after I have it put in, but tbh, I have no idea at all when I take it.  I'm so confused and don't want the Dr to send me away again for another month with no contraception (apart from condoms which I don't trust on their own) and no sex!

Some madmums have put me at ease with their coil stories, and my cervix should be softer as I have had a baby before.

Oh yeah.... I'm getting a smear done at the same time!!!  Lucky me!

The prescription you will need will be the coil, so make sure you collect it before your appointment time on Monday! I had the same problem, no one told me about a prescription so I turned up and then had to miss that appointment to wait in the chemist for an hour. They were really good and still did it that day though just juggled a few appointments round.

Having the coil fitted is less uncomfortable than a smear, it really is pain free chick. have you had all your swobs taken? These need to be done a week before the coil is fitted to ensure there are no harbouring infections and things.

You wont need luck for Monday chick, it really will be fine, just try and stay relaxed it only takes a few minutes xxxx

AWWW you poor girl.

I was told to take the pain killer about 20 mins before i went in to the doctor, that way it has kicked in sooner rather than later. My whom is very high up so to honest it was a bit painful to get it in.....but it no worse than getting a smear.

Once its in you don't feel it any more, and you can put contraception to the very back of your mind.

I had to get the coil and pain killers from the chemist myself (the prescription came from the doctor).

Good luck and try not to worry, I just layed back closed my eyes any pictured I was on hoildays, if you get too nervous you will tighten up and it will be more painful.

Umm, I'm confused as I had no prescription.

I didnt take painkillers and as I havent had a natural birth my cervix isnt softer but it was fine.

I know its easier said than done but try and relax - thats the key!

As my mum puts it....lie back and think of england....has me in stitches when its smear test time.  That and the fact that on my first smear test the doc doing it asked me what i would do if a double decker bus went past...he had half and half windows if that makes sense...me being me, said, um wave hello...t,hats it all done come back in 3 years.  He really put me at ease and never noticed that he had done it...mind on what would i do if a double decker bus did go past......still creases me up whenever i have to have a smear done.  Could only be me that finds them funny!  So when you have your coil fitted, check out the windows...and try not to think of double decker buses!
