Has anyone any experience with their child fainting, and then having a small febrile convulsion?

My friend is in A&E at the mo with her boy (23 months) and he's had a bit of a cold today, but no temp as such. Earlier this evening, he was playing with his cousins and then just fainted and had a small fit. They called paramedics who wanted him checked out at the hospital, which is where they are. He has a raised temp now, but having had a nap on his mum, he's running up and down the corridor waving a pencil and shouting!

He had a convulsion after his MMR and was in hospital for a week with an irratic temperature. The docs then felt that it was an MMR reaction although they couldn't be 100% sure.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Other than this, he's a perfectly healthly little dude who's 2 next month.

Adam has convulsions when his temp gets too high. He kinda goes all spaced out and then starts fitting. It was very scary the first time but weve had 3 now.

I've never had any experience of this but I feel so sorry for anyone who does go through it. I know it can be quite comman in young children but i think I would panic!

How if the little man now Dizie? I hope he's ok and enjoying himself!

Amy - what age did Adam start having them? Just wondered, cos thats exactly what Aleks does.

I picked my friend up for work this morning and Aleks came running out of the house shouting "eya mama!" (Ella's mama!) so he was fine, although a little pale. They finally let them go home at midnight.

The doctor says that the most likely explanation is that he is suseptable to them when he gets a temperature and so as soon as a cold starts to show, she's to give him calpol/nurofen as a precaution. They did also say that as he didn't go to the shaking fit (more spaced out and flopy) its possible that he could develop epilepsy at a later stage. Its one of those risks that they have to make you aware of.

They should get a follow up appointment through to discuss it further, so hopefully, they'll get some answers soon. I really felt for her - this is the 3rd time he's wound up in hospital.

Not yet thank God and hopefully Never. Rachels temp reached 42 degrees in july. She was admitted to hospital just in case she had a fit. I was told at the time that if I hadn't given her paracetamol when I did she would have had one. The doctor told me that he has seen a few of them and they can be very very frightening and it was something he would never get use to seeing.

well my Amber faints when she hurts herself or has anything done, eg anything to do with needles etc. Which is going to be fun when she has her operation.

She dosnt have a convulsion, she just faints then comes round and is spaced out and distant for a good few hours afterwards.....

its really scarey and awful, but for her I think its an anxiety thing

hope things get sorted for Aleks soon and he feels better

hugs

lilybxx

Sorry its taken me a lil while to repy Dizie.

Adam was 6 months old when he had his first one. His temp got too high when he had chicken pox.

He had a bad fever a bout 5 months ago and had 2 within 30 minutes and caused himself to bleed out of his ears and nose.

The 1st time we went to the hospital for this we were told not to worry if they only have one fit and recover almost immediately.

The second time Adam was so ill that the fits were more violent, we phoned for an ambulance and didnt bother with the car as we were so scared.

Adams doctor says the older he gets, the more he will manage high temperatures. Some babies/toddlers like Adam just struggle to regulate there body temperature, but this shouldn't happen as he gets older.

Hth and hope lil one is ok?

xxx
