Hi all. When I had my first pregnancy scan about 6 weeks ago, I was told the baby was fine and they could see a dark patch somewhere outside the womb. A specialist then came in and confirmed that it looked like a cyst on my right ovary. I'm panicking cos I've never had a cyst before and this is my forth child now. Anyway they tell me it's common in pregnancy and they will check it again at my second scan. Has anyone else experienced this?

To make matters worse I've got SPD again and I've just been given Crutches, Tubigrip and a Belt for support. I'm only five months pregnant. Last time the SPD started later and I was in hospital for the last week in pain and waiting to be inducedI'm trying not to imagine it might be worse this time around. One of the reasons I didn't want another baby so soon was because the last preganacy and labour was so horrific. but I got pregnant between trying different contraceptions that were clearly not suitable for me. I wonder if they caused my cyst?

Please, has anyone gone through anything similar?

Crystal x

Don't over stress yourself.  Its not good for u or for baby.  Cysts are quite common, and tend to be hormone surge related.  Majority of women have them, but obviously never notice them as its not as if we have eyes on the inside.

A cyst on the ovary is relatively straightforward, they can drain it (nd test it obviously) as well as remove the cyst by a simple op.  Its routine for them to check it quite often as they can become quite painful, depending on the size of them.

Hope that helps

Thanks, I do feel a twinge on my right side sometimes but it hasn't got worse.

I'll try my best not to stress.

I'm afraid I cant help you with the cyst but I am fast becoming an expert on SPD. I had it from 20 weeks pregnant and an still suffering now my son is 18 months old. I have had crutches, walking stick, wheelchair, stays in hospital, all sorts of treatments, the lot.

I have written 2 articles for Madmums see here for my SPD article and here for my birth story.

I would recommend contacting the pelvic partnership and their information is invaluable. Become a member (it isnt expensive and all money goes to help their members) and they will offer telephone and email support and answer any questions you might have. See their website here.

I personally didnt find a belt helped me so I didnt wear one. Find a physio that understands the condition and has experience treating it, make sure you get an urgent referal if you havent already - dont let anyone brush this away. Acupuncture is helpful (I dont know how much they can do in pregnancy but its worth asking), find a chiropractor who has treated it before and has experience - I have just found one who specialises in pregnancy and I am finally on the slow road to recovery, shes expensive but worth every penny!

Speak to your gp about painkillers - there are some you can have which wont harm your baby - I was even on Morphine for the last week before I had my son and he is absolutely fine!

I will add to this as I think of more. If I can help more or you just want someone to talk to who understands send me a PM! If I can do anything just ask! I offer you my every sympathy!

It will get better and doesnt always get worse with each pregnancy - stay positive and think of the end result - holding that beautiful baby in your arms! Hugs!

Thanks Madz. I don't think I recovered properly from that last pregnancy before I started this one which was a total shock. My doc and Physio have been great, I was seen by physio within a week of telling doc.

I'll check out your articles, thanks.

You're right about the end result - the beautiful baby at the end of it.

Hi I have a cyst on my right ovary and so does my eldest daughter.  I sometimes get right sided pain but nothing too bad I have had it for about 6yrs now.  Hayley was having some right sided pain last year and they did a scan and discovered she also has a cyst on her ovary.  They are very common and if you only have one rarely need any medical intervention.  I did have another one that burst which was very painful when it burst but didn't make me ill or anything.  Hope the SPD doesn't get any worse.

Hi Sweetface

I also suffered from spd during my pregnancy, and had to wear one of those belts.  I wasnt on crutches at the time, although I am now, I still get spd pain - although it is my condition, the pain is very similar in my pelvic region.

Like Steph said, easier said than done, but try some relaxation exercises, visulisations to calming music are good and your baby will love it too!!

hope that the spd isnt getting any worse and pain-free hugs to you hunny xxx

Thanks Funchick

I will try relaxation exercises. I'll try anything! It does seem to be getting worse but hopefully if I go to physio after the birth and I actually do the excercises I'm supposed to, it should go for good eventually.

I didn't do the excercises last time and I'm paying for it now.

Hugs to you too Funchick xxx
