I have never mastered weaning with any of my kids, to the point that Fred doesn't eat much with lumps in still. I know they had bottles, then they were normal and ate! lol On Monday I introduced Winston to baby rice, and he is doing well, and seems to enjoy it. When and how often should I introduce new flavours, and when would be the best time to start introducing a 2nd solid feed. Oh and when do you increase the amount? Or is that something you do when he has cleared his bowl and still wants more. And do I give him water with his meal or keep him on milk? I really have forgotten more than I remember when it comes to this subject, as I always felt panicky when it got to this stage! I don't want to be doing things out of desperation, as I've kept it quite a calm atmosphere for feed times. Although this today is the first time I'll have all 3 older ones home! I just want Winston on home cooked food, as I really don't want to have to go and buy packets and jars again! They are ok as an emergency stand by, but I want it to be my cooking that he adjusts to, not packets!

i'm not really the best at advice hun but through weaning all 4 of mine i found the best thing was to go with the flow. None of my kids liked baby rice so they went straight onto rusk. At first whilst they were still on the 'baby' food i gave them milk with their meal and water throughout the day. When i saw they were comfortable with what they were eating i introduced another flavor like banana then mixed things as the kids grew more confident with what they were eating. As for things with lumps, Aimee has been eating exactly the same as the older kids since she was about 10 months old. It's all trial and error. You know your own baby, if you think he's ready introduce something new, if he likes it great, if not wait a while or try something dfferent. Dont get yourself worked up about it, if you enjoy tryin new things and dont mind a bit of mess then he'll enjoy it too. GOOD LUCK HUN xxx

i would do what you feel comfortable with vix, if he seems content and happy with what hes getting leave him be if hes not maybe he needs a little more, as for flavours i introduced molly every few weeks (basically when i seen somethin i thought she would like,) i also used to reduce mols milk at meal time or just give her water x goodluck vix, jue x

As he's so young I'd leave him with baby rice for a little while - then slowly introduce some pureed fruit and veg. Freeze it in ice cube trays so you can offer him small amounts.
Start with Fruit such as apple, banana (dont freeze banana) and bland flavors and Veg like carrots, butternut squash and sweet potato. They are quite sweet.
As for amounts let him guide you - when he is finishing what you offer him, next time add a little more.
Ed was a nightmare to wean but I kept to home cooked food and he never ate a jar in his little life!

As already said theres no real rules cause every baby is different
Ryan never took to baby rice, so i started him on 1/4 rusk & added another 1/4 each week, he was 11 weeks wen i started weaning. After 4 weeks on rusk i tried him on pure veg then after another week or so i moved him onto 2 meals a day - breakfast & dinner, i never gave him anything to drink with his food but i think most people do. Im sure he was about 5 months before i introduced 3 meals a day & also around this time when introduced meat & fruit/puddings

Thanx ladies! He's clearing what's made already, but I have to admit, this last week has seen a drastic improvement! He very rarely screams now, except when his solid feed is due, and I haven't got it ready! lol He knows that he gets his bib on first. However he did give me a dirty look when I said all gone and picked him up to give him the rest of his bottle! lol He is just like his brothers! Now Ij ust have to get Fred not to help me! Bless him he thinks he's helping by rocking the car seat while I'm trying to put a spoon in Winston's mouth! Oh well, he'll get there! He did try to feed Winston himself today, and tries very hard to wipe his face while I'm making all the mess!
