Max was around 2 and a half when he started to talk.  I have always been concerned about his speech because he'd contracted meningitis as a newborn and I was aware that his hearing and thus his speech may be affected.  Even now at 3 he still has problems with stringing a sentence together.  I've always known there was something wrong, but like you no-one wanted to listen to me.  In the end I joined my local Sure Start where they have an allocated community Speech Therapist and skipped the waiting lists and saw her straightaway.  If you can join yours I recommend you do just so you have quick access to a speech therapist instead of the ridiculous waiting that we all have to endure.

However, now that Max has been seen by a speech therapist and the fact that's he's at a nursery where there is a lady training to help children with speech and language delay I feel abit more optimistic about his development.

Tom is 18 months old and is the complete opposite. This boy can talk the arse of a rhino!!!  He says yes, no, milk, daddy, mummy, wee wee and more (which means food!).  He babbles constantly and loves to sing.  There is nothing wrong with his communication at all!!

Megan says so much i couldnt possible list it all, she never stops, everyday she says something new! She speaks in short sentances now and her current favourites are " i farted", "its raining outside" "molly lay down" "wheres mine (my) dinner" "I go upstairs" "wheres it gone" oh and she has learnt to count to 5 but sometimes skips a number and says 8 instead lol...she also knows most peoples names and when she is babbling adds them in...She also sings to the shiny show and teletubbies themes and of coure big cook little cook...she just shouts Cook cook cook cook! at the telly! She came home from my mums yesterday and said " jelly wibble wobble" pmsl! And my mum taught her to point to her bum n shout "A**"...ok the 1st time its cute, 2nd its funny but 80th its irritating...Infact i miss the times she didnt know so much!

Liam on the other hand is a blissful baby, hes only 4 1/2 mths old but all he does is coo and babble and its heaven coz i can say whatever i like and he just smiles and coos back! At 4 mths megan had already learnt a few words, they are all so different!  I wouldn't have believed it if i didnt have chalk and cheese!

I've been worried about Edwards speech for a while but its been really improving recently.

He says dad, mum (occassionally!), bum, poo, eeyore, dog, boat, no no no, yes, juice, animal noises like roar, woof, mooo, baaa, oww (for cats)

There are probably others I cant think of. The problem is in public all he says is 'dids' and everyone thinks he doesnt talk - but he does to me.

Thanks so much you guys for letting me know all of this. I'm not so worried about it now, I'm just really glad that Jadens on the list just incase there is a problem a little later on because of his hearing loss.

If after assessment he doesn't need speech therapy they can just discharge him and see the next person on the list.

Thanks again guys!
