Just another quick question for you ladies.

I will be going for my 6 week post natal check at the doctors next

week and  wanted to start using some form of contraception but

dont know which to choose. We dont want any little suprises just

yet!!!! Not that we'll be doing anything too soon in that

department, I had a second degree tear and stitches due to having

a forceps delivery and I'm scared it will hurt if we do it too soon (sorry TMI)

What form of contraception did/have you used whilst breast feeding?

There isn't a huge amount of choise when breastfeeding unfortunately, you can take the mini pill but have to make sure you take it at the same time every day, condoms, diaphragm.  Can't think of any others off the top of my head.  I personally used the diaphragm which was very easy and unobtrusive once you get the hang of putting it in, I hated condoms and didn't really want to go on the mini pil. hth

I never took anything when i was breastfeeding, basically because i
have tried loads of different pills and none of them agree with me.
I know people who have the coil.
I am sure they will advise you when you go for your check up.

 I like your style ladies

I'm no good at remembering to take tablets either, even forgot to take my iron tablets when I came out of hospital with Nathaniel, Doh!!!!!

Think I might ask about the coil but dont think I'll have it fitted just yet if I do decide to go for that option, ouchhhhh

I had the coil when I was bfing. It was fine but I had to have it removed for other unreleated reasons.

Good luck.

I had the mini pill....but gave it up as a bad job as it wasnt helping with periods...so hubby had to lump it ahem.

So he had a choice...condoms or nowt!  Mind you, with not much sleep, the last thing I wanted was erm conjugal visits lol.  The RAF helped loads with our contraception...they kept sending him away lol, so by the time he did get home I had stopped breastfeeding cos Isla was a pig and I couldnt keep up with her... and was back on my real pill.

Hi mums...

im researching on contraceptive types and found some info since im planning on bf my lo when she arrives.

Contraceptives that contain only progestins are compatible with breastfeeding and are a safe option, assuming you don't have a medical problem that would preclude the use of this hormone.

On the other hand, combined contraceptives — so-called because they contain both estrogen and progestin — aren't good choices for a nursing mother, particularly in the first six months, because they may cause you to produce less milk. This applies to all methods that contain estrogen and progestin, such as the combined birth control pill, the vaginal ring (NuvaRing), and the patch (Ortho Evra).
I found this very useful...so i wanted to share this with everyone.
