Aaaaarrrrgggghhhh, oh my god why does his mother have to be sooooo patronising. I know that Nathaniel is her first grandchild but this is getting ridiculous. As some of you will know Nathaniel has got a really bad milk rash and I had the hv out to see him earlier in the week. Well when his mother called me earlier to see how we were getting on I told her about his rash and she was realing off the following and really getting on my tits:

Get him to the doctors

He's my first grandbaby I dont want anything happening to him, he's got to survive... Like I'd let anything happen to my baby!!!!!

Give him some water... I get this everytime I speak to her and she knows I just want to give him breastmilk. Its like water is ment to cure everything, must be something really special in her water!!!!!!

Then she started saying how she ALWAYS put baby oil or cream on her children when they got out of the bath because black children get dry skin. Well I'm mixed race and my cousins are white and we all got cream or oil put on us when we got out of the bath too, I didnt know colour had anything to do with using cream!!!!!!!!

Then 5mins later his father called and repeated the same bloody things. Quoting that medical advice says that babies need water to hydrate themselves they dont get water from breast milk - B****cks!!!! Anyway I just ended up pretending to agree with them so I could get them off the phone. I've got a feeling we are gonna have a visit from them this weekend - Please god NOOOOOOOO

Well rant over girls, but I'm still bubbling inside. If I still smoked I'd have gone through a pack of 20 already this morning

hehehehe id take your mother in law any day over mine!

Put it this way..Joe is away (again) on detatchment..last time he spoke to her before he went away, she asked about coming down to visit, and he said you'll have to talk to steph as i dont know what shes got planned.  However, she phoned a few days after he left to say that hed said it was ok for them to come down grrrr.  Have I thought about putting the girls in the same room..so there is a guest bedroom (hmm get stuffed), erm they are staying for a 'few days' which has turned out to be almost a week, am going to go spare.  She goes on about joe being away all the time and how hard it is for her.  Have I thought about doing this that and the other with the girls..maybe I should do this that and the other as thats what she did blah blah.  When am I going back to work to take the strain off Joe where finances are concerned..(its me that holds the purse strings).. that we should think about moving closer to her (over my dead body lol)and various other corkers.  Im not going to be able to come on here cos she hovers..when joe phones its going to be a nightmare cos shell hover and follow me til i just hand the phone over.  I do have to say even my mum (and she can be a cow) isnt that bad..shell make the odd naughty comment but apart from that shell let me speak to him in peace.  I cant even just sit and chill cos she just talks AT you rather than TO you aaaaalllll day...shes never heard of comfy silences apparently...oh the joys!!  Mind you on the plus side shes terrified of the dog....and he knows it he he he

So its not just me that has to put up with MIL from hell then, ha ha ha ha.....

Your stories have made me feel slightly better, I mean to say at least she doesnt live too close (1 & 1/2hrs away) and she's not here at the moment, so thats something I suppose!

I've got a problem though, I've just been to see the doctor to see if Nathaniel could have some cream on prescription for his milk rash. The one the hv told me to use isnt working as his skin is dry in patches as well as been covered in the rash. I would have done this anyway without MIL from hell telling me to!!!!!! Now all I'm gonna get is "well I told you so" cause the doctor said as well as the milk rash he's got a bit of eczema, so he's been prescribed oilatum and aqueous...

I'm waiting for the phone call from hell, its due anytime now lol. She will probably take the opportunity to tell me how he needs to drink water to get rid of the eczema

Oh and Steph I really do feel for you, not only do you have to cope with your partner being away but you also have to live with your MIL for a week. When Nathaniel was 2 weeks old and the OH had returned back to work following PL, the MIL came to stay for 4days and this was more than enough. I kept thinking if I left Nathaniel alone with her well I went for a nap she would end up force feeding him WATER!!!!! I also had the same continuous bla bla bla in my ear telling me I should do this and why dont I do that....

Oh and good look to all those with who have got MIL visiting this weekend, you have my greatest sympathy...

Rachel and Steph - I feel for you both because I have a very interefering mil.  She lives in Scotland and comes down for a visit - yep a week - just like Steph.  She constantly picks up Lewis - even when he doesnt want to be picked up, and makes stupid comments about our parenting technique!!

Another thing that really does my head in is that when she goes to the loo - and Im sorry for tmi but I cant explain it any other way - she just hovers over the toilet and wees all over the seat and doesnt wipe it away so that any other unsuspecting person to next use the loo gets a wet backside.  This morning when she got up she must have missed the loo completely and there was a big pool of wee on the bathroom floor - and she just left it!! I cleaned it up and told Kev and his response was that it was probably old age and didnt seem bothered!!

Kev and I between us tidied through the house before she arrived, and the first thing she did when she got here was to get the duster and hoover out!!! I really am loosing the plot with her!!  She undoes all the good we are trying to teach Lewis and what we check him for she lets him get away with.  She also leaves everything lying about so that Lewis gets a hold of things and he gets checked for it even though its not his fault!!

Right, thats all I'm saying cos I could write a book!!!

Daughters-in-law unite and dont let the dreaded mil get you down!!!!

Rachel - I hope Nathaniel's milk rash clears up soon hunny.

Lots of Love Nikki xxxx

unfortunatly i never got to meed my mil as she died before i met carl, i sometimes think thats good as every-one who i know basically has in-laws from hell, i do feel you all whos mil's try to interfere, im sorry but if it was me i would have to say somethin if i didnt i would make dh, why dont they just let you sit back and let you do what you thinks best for your children, they were first time mothers themselves years ago (i think they forget that). Grrr xx luv jue xx

Don't start me on the MIL thing.
AS i've said before, thomas also had milk spots on his face.
I remember when she saw him (they stay a 5 min drive away and
used
to come around un-announced) she said "his face is a mess, get him
to
the doctor"
I came close to screaming at her, to say the least.
I could write a book about my interferring MIL but i am in a calm
mood
and if i start i'll end up with high blood pressure.
I normally just agree to keep the peace but i wish i could spek my
mind
a bit more often.

Feel free to rant away, glad to know i am not the only one !

ps - funchick - my fil pees on the seat too, there is nothing worse
than coming in after a night out when they've babysat to clean pee
off the seat. Disgusting

We live in Stafford....they live in Motherwell...not quite far enough..I think Joes older brother and sister have it sussed...one set lives in cyprus for another 18 months...and the other set have just moved out to Oz...sooooo selfish of them, cos its us and joes younger brother who get lumped with her.  So oh the joys, I think I am now more or less mother in law proofed the house, but we shall see no doubt ive missed something..but I will cross that bridge tomorrow.

Whats really going to wind me up is that im not going to be able to disappear off for a nice hot (2 hour plus) soak in the bath..havent got a lock on the bathroom door so I darent risk it..shed probably come up and talk at me in there ooooo yaaaack no ta!  But still shes bringing down some buckfast
