Hiya,

I was really excited to read your post as I too have been suffering from this for years.. I've had the plating (across the symphysis with a synthetic bone underneath), a total hysterectomy and so many pain killers I'm a walking (well, hobbling) chemist! I read up on a treatment thats available in the states called 'Prolotherapy' that looks really promising - is that what you're getting? apparently they inject loads of a salene (sp?) solution into the area to encourage new ligament growth so it's sounds the same.  I've asked numerous dctors & consultants here (Ayrshire, Scotland) if they know anything about it and usually they look at me as if i'm mad and prescribe another pill, patch or whatever.. What does it take to be taken seriously when we are suffering like this? It seems as if they don't care because it's not life threatening (it is when you are so depressed through it)... the fact that it's life changing is irrelevant.. Most days I just struggle on with my crutches but sometimes the thought of being in this amount of pain for every day of my life just doesn't bare thinking about.. I know it's terrible to say but at least people with terminal illnesses know it will end... PLEASE DON'T ANYONE SHOOT ME DOWN FOR SAYING THAT, I KNOW IT'S A TERRIBLE THING TO SAY BUT SO IS LIVING WITH THIS EVERY DAY...

Could you please tell me more about the treatment as I currently attend a pain clinic and all we do is talk about my pain... I know there is a mental aspect to all pain but I'm not imagining it and no amount of 'talking' is going to fix me... they keep talking about 'chronic' pain and as most people with this will agree it is actually both chronic & acute - especially when your pelvis 'locks' when you are trying to turn over in bed... why won't anyone in the medical profession listen????

Sorry for the rant - I'm having a bad day (again...)

Jenny I will send you all the information I can when it comes through to me. I cant remember the words he used but that does sound like the treatment.

I agree with everything you say - I have been treated terribly by the medical proffession and this is the first positive thing the NHS have done for me. I was recommended the metal plate but refused it on the advice of the pelvic partnership.

Are you a memeber? Go to www.pelvicpartnership.org.uk their help has been invaluable to me!

I have to go sort my son out now but I will PM you soon with more info, Gentle hugs honey!

Hello again Madz,

Would it be possible for you to give the name of the doctor that you saw along with the clinic details please? I'm hoping I can get a referal for him through my own GP (it is a 'national' health service after all) but I don't know how that would work when I'm in Scotland... I'm willing to try anything though!!!

I had joined the pelvicpartnership a while ago but I tend to find that most of the women they deal with return to some form of normality quite quickly.  There certainly doesn't seem to be many people who're still disabled 4, nearly 5 years on...

I've got an appointment with another consultant (someone else to say "it's in your head" and "you really should learn to live with it...") on Thursday so here's hoping he'll have something positive to say, although I very much doubt it..

I thought I could maybe ask him about the Prolotherapy (although anyone else I've asked has looked at me funny and then said they've never heard of it: not exactly confidence building eh?) and if it's another brick wall then ask my GP for a referral..  If you could give me any details at all i'd really, really appreciate it!
