I had the minerva coil fitted back in January this year and have up until now, no real problems with it. I had the usual few days of discomfort after it was inserted and a few heavy af's, but I have noticed over the last 6-8 weeks I have gained nearly 1.5 stone in weight yet I haven't changed my diet in any way nor have I 'pigged out' on anything.

I have also began to feel tired all the time, I constantly feel sick I'm really moody and snappy, constantly bloated. In fact I'm showing all the signs of being pg, even df noted it. I have done a test last week which was negative and will do another one just to double check, but as far as i was aware the GP said the coil was 'bullet proof' and was as good as a sterilisation.

I have also started to get pains in my right side, which is really uncomfortable. My coil is still inserted as I checked on the strings and they were still there (sorry tmi)

I know i should really make an appointment to see the gp, but this week isnt a good one with it being half term, so its going to be at least a fortnight by the time I get an appointment.

Has anyone else ever experienced any of these side effects with the coil?

Hi,

Unfortunately I've never had the coil fitted so I can't really comment on the effects you are having from it, but as far as being 'bullet proof' is concerned... my friends LO is 4mths old and she's been using the coil for 3yrs... in fact, it casued a bit of 'humour' when she went for one of her scans coz it looked as if the LO was holding it!!! she's just had to have it surgically removed..

I think if I were you, I'd get to the GP pronto!

Good luck!

Both my mum and my best friend had this coil fitted, and both had to
have them removed due to side effects.

Make sure you get fully checked out, my friend had pains in her side
and was sent away loads of times, but it turned out she had an
infection. I don't want to scare you- but after the experiences of my
mum and Josie I would never dream of getting one fitted, sorry.

Lynie, you haven't scared me I've done that all by myself, It seems that the more I research into the minerva the more negative stuff I read for every 20 negatives there is only 1 positive

I should have researched more into it before having it fitted i suppose.

Seem's I better get to the gp, not good

I have this coil fitted and have done since August.  It's been fine so far, I had a very irregular and more often period in the first month.  It has since settled.  I'm fine with it, I was told too that it's an extremely safe method of contraception, and if you were to get preg on it, the baby might grow ont he other womb or something... I may be talking a load of pants, but I recall her saying that.

It may be side effects of the coil, I would definately see your GP about it asap.  Hugs rin. xx

Right, I did another test yesterday and that was negative, so there's two negative results, so I know I'm not pregnant and the fact the my first af arrived for the first time since July confirmed this.

However I am still being sick in a morning, and i still feel bloated and tired.

I cant get into see the GP until next Thurs so i suppose I'll have to wait, I guess

I had the coil fitted feb of this year, It's only now I feel good again. i was always bloated and moody and my weight was up and my Af was neither here or there.

I was actually going to have it taken out but i was told to wait another few months and so far its been ok. I haven't had a period since Aug and my weight seem to be returning to normal.

I would go to the doctor because at this stage it should be getting better not worse.

Hope you get it sorted.
