Wow what a title! lol My poor little Fred has this. And thought I'd put a small post about it. I noticed a couple of weeks ago when I changed Fred's nappy that the base of his penis looked slightly bruised, but it seemed to clear, and I never thought anything of it. I asked dh, and he was useless, just leave it alone it will be fine was his reply. I also asked my boys, being sensible, they said it was perfectly normal every so often, so I'd checked it out as best as I could! He's not liked having his nappy changed for a few days, and when I opened his nappy this morning, his penis was swollen and extremely red/bruised looking. So I decided to take him into the doctor, just to make sure, and in slightly moving the end of his penis a load of pus came out. So the doctor has taken a swab and prescribed some anti biotic cream for me to apply 3 times a day. He has also advised me to give him plenty of cranberry juice, as this can head off a urine infection. I have to get a urine sample when the infection has cleared, for the doctor to make sure there is no infection in the bladder. There is no point in getting a sample until after the infection clears as all this will do is show that the infection is in the bladder! Now, us women are used to getting the odd infection etc but in boys it's not a common ailment, and the reason (according to the doc) is that boys have about 10 inches from the tip of their penis to the bladder. So if it turns out that he does have a bladder infection, I am going to have to take him to the hospital for tests, as there could be an underlying cause. Other advice he gave me was to leave him nappy free as often as possible (in my house that is inviting infection) and bath him at least once daily, as this will ease the discomfort! Poor little man, no wonder he's been such a whinge for the last few days!
The reason for this thread was for those mothers like me that just think things will pass without a worry, keep an eye out, and if you are not 100% sure (especially when it comes to boys bits) then get him checked out, as I can't begin to imagine the pain he must be going through. No wonder he has been waking up screaming in the night, and sleeping with his bum in the air!
