i had heard of SPD but never really knew much about it.  I found out much more whilst pg this time after so many suffered with it from bounty.  I think people should have more awareness about it, most are lucky enough not to get it but for the ones who do there should be much more availible information

Hiya,

I've just read these threads and wondered how you were getting on with this? Do you need any help at all? I too would like to do something to raise awareness especially as I'm still disabled and my youngest is about to turn 4.  I've had the plating (or fusion), a hysterectomy, you name it, I've probably tried it! I'm now saving up for Prolotherapy in the States as there's a practitioner over there that specialises in it and he has a really good success rate..

Anyway, if I can be of any help at all please let me know.. I know first hand how debilitating, life-changing and lonely this condition can be and if my experiences can help ease someone else's suffering then I'd really like to help..

PS. Where is your article? I can't find it on here..

Hi. I had never heard of this until I was diagnosed with it in my third pregnancy. Looking back, I had it mildly in my second pregnancy, though I went to the Doctor with symptoms, I was never really diagnosed and pretty much told that severe discomfort and limited mobility was just a part of pregnancy! I read a LOT of books and articles about being pregnant too, especially when I was pregnant the first time around, so I would have thought I would have seen something about it. Fortunately, most of the worst symptoms went not long after my son was born, but I still get painful hips at night if I lie on my side, or if I walk a long way or uphill.

Hiya,

The best advice I could give you is to get & take all the help you can get.. whether the symptoms come back or not!

I really hope you are one of the lucky ones and it doesn't return, or even if it does that it's not too bad (I know it's hellish but you know what I mean..). You will probably see from here that there are a few of us still struggling on with it a few years after having the little ones, but I'm sure there are far more who've had their lives go back normal (whatever that may be with kids - lol).

Hopefully when you had it before your midwife was aware of the condition and you were sent to a specialist physio.. if not, please make sure that you are this time! I know there's not much they can do for the condition whilst you're pregnant but the tips for getting in/out of bed, the car, the support belts, all these things help. So make as much use of them as possible..  But right now, please, please don't worry about it too much (I know that's easier said than done..) as it might never happen and could cloud what should be a wonderful time in your life..

I suppose in closing my biggest piece of advice would be to think positive, just because you had it once doesn't neccessarily mean you'll get it again.. and if you do, it could be milder.. Please don't spend too much time wondering what if? enjoy the here and now...

If you ever need to talk about your fears (or anything else for that matter), please contact me as I know exactly what you are going through. I was in exactly the same position a couple of years ago.. (I had it with my 1st and had re-occuring pain every month afterwards; mainly with the onset of my period) and as soon as I fell pregnant the second time I worried myself sick about whether it would return..

Take care..

TBH I havent been able to do a huge amount about this - however I am still working on it! My SPD came back and I am still in loads of pain with it. I refused to have the surgery on my pelvis but have now found a consultant who will do prolotherapy and other procedures to help stabalise the area and I have a fantastic chiropractor who has helped me enormously.

Thankyou for re opening this thread - I will spend some time answering people questions when I have got out the shower (I'm still in my pj's!)
