Hi everyone, hope you're all ok.  Just a couple of quick questions really, my son is a nearly 7 months and I was wondering if it is alright to give him a hard boiled egg (mashed). I'm not sure if my health visitor said it was ok to give it to him once he was 6 months, and she's away on hols for next 3 weeks.  She said it would be ok to try stuff like tuna, chicken etc but can't remember the egg thing lol!!!!

Also what do you give your little ones to drink apart from milk?  My son is formula fed, and is hopeless with his water.  (Can I stop boiling that now he's over 6 months too) He won't take any from his bottle so might try it from a training cup/beaker.

Sorry its so long, hope you can help,

Thanks

Hi there. Don't apologise for asking questions, it what a site like this is here for.

After six months, you're fine to give hard boiled eggs, or omelette, anything like that.

It's fine to stop boiling water after six months too, though not the water that you use to make formula.

It's definitely worth trying a beaker for water, though this may be very messy initially! As for other drinks, very-diluted pure fruit juice is a good one to try, or a special baby squash (Hipp do some, and various other baby food companies, you can get them in Boots and most supermarkets), but these should not be given in a bottle as this can encourage tooth decay. Even if your little one doesn't have any teeth yet, it's best to use a training cup, or you could even offer it from a spoon.

Good luck!

On the weaning sheet I got from my HV, it says that eggs are fine from 6 months as long as they are hard boiled or fully cooked i.e. scrambled egg with no runny bits unless there are any known alergies to eggs in the family. Have had a quick look on the food standards agency site and that says its OK.

Also with the water, I boiled the water that I used for formula up until Ella was a year old but from 6 months, I didn't boil the water that I used in juice. I used the cow and gate juices (suitable from 4 months).

Hope this helps!
