i couldn't handle wentworths screamimg any longer and was in desperate need of some sleep, so on the advice of my mum i gave him half a rusk before bed on friday night 9.30 ad he went until 4am befroe his next feed! so finally getting some sleep but he still screams all day i think he is just a whingey baby. good news is hes almost 3 months and they say they cry the most in there first 3 months so i hope there right!

any suggestions on if i should leave him on just a rusk at night or start to wean him properly! i dont want to ask the h.v in case i get shouted at!

thanx tilly xx

My son was never satisfied with just his milk so at about 10 weeks i started giving him babyrice. It worked a treat and made it much easier weaning him properly. My hv at the time was wonderful and told me i'd done the right thing.

I had a similar problem with my daughter but she was about 8 weeks. i asked my new hv and they told me not to do anything til 3 months. i tried to delay but she was hungry all the time so i gave babyrice at about 9 weeks, it hasn't done either of mine any harm!

If you feel he's ready for something more then try it, he'll let you know if he's not ready.

good luck and don't worry about your hv, they're there for advice!

I personaly wouldn't- they do go through a growth spurt at this time
where they seem to feed all the time, but this does pass. Their gut isn't
mature enough to digest the food properly, and it will seem to settle
them as the food will fill up their tummies and make them more likely to
sleep. But, in saying that only you can decide what's right for your
baby. Sorry if that sounds harsh- I don't mean it to, it's just that I've
done a wee bit of reading up on early weaning.

You should say to your hv about his screaming though- it could be
caused by a variery of problems which may or may not be realated to
feeding.

Ella was very similar to this and its very draining, so sending you massive hugs even though I know thats not enough...

Have you tried Colief? Many babies have an intollence to lactose when newborn which they grow out of by about 5 months. Colief breaks the lactose down in the milk making it easier to digest. It doesn't work for everyone but for me, it was my miracle cure! Its not cheap at £9.99 a bottle and it is a bit of a faff BUT personally, I would have paid double for the difference it made. If it does work, a lot of doctors will prescribe it!

http://www.colief.com/ heres the website. Might be worth giving it a try. Let us know how you get on.

I weaned Edward early at 16 weeks and it was the biggest parenting mistake I made. It was a battle at every mealtime for months and months and didnt help him at all! It isnt the same for everyone I know but it isnt always the miricle cure.

He woke at night til 8.5 months for a bf. I know it isnt what you want to hear but I got used to it.

Look into other reasons first before resorting to weaning. Good luck.

hmm a tricky one hun,

With my first three I held out till the 6 month mark

with dd4 she was a mega unsettled and hugely hungry bubs so I had to give her the smallest amount of baby rice and she seemed better she hasnt changed, at now 3 years old she loves her food, and eats all manner of things, esp loads of broccoli, stalks and all urgh LOL

With dd5 I held out till I think it was 4.5 months, then again baby rice only

My only slight concern hun would be the gluten in the rusks, I personally kept the early weaning foods as gluten free because of dd1 having the coeliac condition and as it runs in families/siblings I was just being ultra careful.  Problem being with gluten its hard for the gut to digest when very small.

oops sorry not meant to sound like Im dictating about the above, but just personal experience

good luck hun, I know how hard it is to have a screamy baby, blimey takes me back to how April was, but she was better on the colic drops.

luv lilybxxx
