I set Ella's up via Boots with The Childrens Mutual. My mate works for an insurance broker (boooorrriing!!!) and their financial guys said that the Childrens Mutual were one of the most ethical investors.

I agree with MumSam though. We've set up a Halifax savings account to save for Ella in and have some control on it!!!

My mum and dad set a bond up for me and it matured when I turned 18. I'd just started work and it paid £1000 so I got a car......that was an absolute nail and I crashed it a year later and wrote it off!!!! Well done me!!!!

If you do not set up an account before lo's 1st birthday the government will do it on your behalf, so you loose your right to choose.

I set Ollies up today with the Nationwide 6% straight savings account.

MumSam-not sure what you mean cos Max is nearly two and there are no other accounts set up for.  Not that I'm aware anyway.

If you have received the cheque from the government and do not invest the money for your child within the year the government invest the money on your childs behalf.

Travis account opens on the 13th of this month. I got confirmation yesterday.  He's nearly excelled his limited amount for this year already though - It gets taken over into another account for the next year though.  He got so much money when he was born.

Thank goodness it is set up now!

That's good news, Laur.

We're still researching into the best scheme for our two wee ones.

Most of the banks do the stake holder account, which isn't what we're after.

Abbey National were very helpful and are our favourite at the mo.

Don't know if its any help but www.moneysupermarket.com do a comparison table for child trust funds. If you go to "savings", its in there.

The Ipswich Buildings Society is top of their table, with an interest rate of 5.75%
