Hello All,
I need your help! I'm trying to evaluate what percentage of expectant mothers use baby heart monitors. Whether you brought one or borrowed one or if you think they are just a gimmick.

I wanted a doppler when I was pg with Lewis but dh wouldnt let me have one - I suppose I would have used it all the time and become obsessed!!! Plus they are really expensive - even on Ebay, if I was ever worried I would just phone my midwife for a check up or go to the hospital. They are useful, but I think that if I had gotten one - I would have been forever listening to my baby's heartbeat.

I got one when i was pg with my second daughter simply cos i wasnt allowed to have one with my first pg. It was nice to listen to the heartbeat whenever I wanted to (could only use in the last trimester) instead of waiting for mw appointments. I got it from blooming marvellous..think it was about 50 quid. Its been passed round loads of other families round here at the moment as there seems to be a bit of a 'baby boom' going on where i live pmsl

I wnted one but found them too expensive and I was thinking my last child was my last child. I thought it'd be a waste of money. Now I'm expecting again but doubt I will buy one as again they are too costly and there's more important thins to purchase

I had one, got it from Ebay - it was really bad quality though and I couldnt pick anything up so I stuck it in a cupboard and forgot about it. I wouldnt get another one!

I was advised against these as dd had a troublesome scan (they could only see two valves in the heart) the dr's and mw's thought it would strees me too much if i couldn't hear the heart beat, which is apparently quite hard to find anyway, so i decided to not get one in the end.

Iv never brought or borrowed one before, not with any of my pg's. Just general mv and hospital checks kept me happy enough and if there was any problems with baby moving/not moving, then i would go and see my gp. They weren't something i ever thought of buying really.

I wanted to buy one but they were far too expensive, i think that it would have stressed me out too much if i hadn't have found the heartbeat and possibly caused unnecessary trips to the Hospital for monitoring. I bought something off ebay that wasn't like what the midwives use, just like a sound ampifier but it was rubbish and i could only really hear my stomach gurgling lol.

When I was pg the first time, I didn't feel my baby moving very much and had to go in for checks quite regularly to make sure that he was OK. It turned out that I had TONS of fluid that was cushioning him, but that also made it hard even for experienced midwives to actually find his heartbeat. As others have said, if I'd have had one of these I think it would just have freaked me out even more as I'm fairly certain I wouldn't have been able to hear anything and would then have just panicked.
