i was wondering when should i stat weaning my lo,

i know this is my third but i am still unsure as when to start weaning as sometimes she drinks 7oz and still wants more and she is only 11wks but other times she only drinks 3oz so not sure as what to do,

how much does ur little ones drink?

and at what age did u start weaning?

Sorry to bombard you with questions, but how much milk does your lo have in a day in total, and what sort of milk are you giving her?

My DD was 15 weeks when I started weaning her BUT she was drinking up to 50oz of hungry baby milk a day, and wanting more. I can't remember the exact age, but when I started her on forumla, I used SMA gold, then I started to use SMA white (hungry baby) at night times. Then I moved to SMA while all the time, but when she got to 50oz in a day, the HV agreed that I should start her on a little baby rice, and that worked fine.

Is she feeding more frequently? The recomended age for weaning is 6 months but a lot of babies are weaned earlier as they just can't wait that long.

I was speaking to the hv today about the ages of weaning babies and for bottle fed babies they recommend not before 16wks for breastfed not until after 6mnths.  Like Dizie suggests maybe a hungrier baby formula might help for now.  The reason they recommend not before this age is the kidneys and liver are not developed enough before this age to process solid food and waste.

I breastfed Ollie so didn't wean him until later on, With Hayley who was formul fed (17yrs ago) I started to wean her at about 14wks but the advice back then was very different to now.  With Fran (13yrs ago) she was breastfed and wasn't interested in solid food at all until she was nearly 8mnths and then it took ages for her to want to eat more than 1 solid meal a day.

Partly you have to be led by what you feel for your own baby and how your baby is whilst still listening with one ear to the professional advice and guidelines.

she is on sma gold and she drinks about 36oz a day

i think i will try her on sma white
