Good afternoon Ladies!! As some of you will be aware, for many months I have had an extremely sore, infected leg. The practice nurse, bless her, has done everything she could to help heal it, but all efforts failed. I did get referred to the community dermatologist - but the appointment was weeks away.
It got so bad that a couple of weeks ago I went and sat in A&E in an attempt to get something done. I was immediately referred to the hospital dermatologist, and a couple of days later I was seen. I was given various lotions and potions and also antibiotics. They took skin swabs and blood for tests and gave me an appointment for the following week.
Well, something worked cos my rash - eczema which had broken out because my leg was in such a state - had almost gone and my leg was starting to resemble a leg again. I had a few days left of antibiotics to take so I was given a weaker version of the ointment and stockinette instead of bandages - woohooo - I felt liberated at last!! It also transpired that I have two - not just one but two cos I'm greedy!! - infections going on in my leg and thats why it didnt respond to other treatment.
However, I finished the antibiotics on Thursday and over the past couple of days, the rash has returned with a vengence, and my leg is an itchy red oozing mess again.  Im thinking that I need more antibiotics to zap the bugs as I don't think I was on them long enough. Gonna ring my dermo tomorrow to ask whether I have to go and see her or whether I can just get the antibiotics from my GP. I will get there......eventually..........
