Im asking for any info and advice on preventing the prolonging of dilation and cervix advancement. i am 32 and half weeks and hoping to hold my baby in for another few weeks but dilating almost to 4 cm now..my cervix length is short and thinned out..im on some medications to stop contractions and am currently on bedrest..it just scares me because I see sick preemies that cant eat or breath on their own when under 35 weeks born...im so scared...im opened for advise. thank you so much!

Sincerely, Lina N.

Hello mums...as some of you know, im finally about 37 weeks along now. I thank you all for your support. Ive finally held her in til now thanks to the tocolytic, procardia. ive stopped taking it at 35 weeks and have been managing my contractions since. no further dilation and ive walked even shopped a little during parts of the days. Im even thinking..she may be held til term or more now 8D. .. well, i have more back pains now..so she could be coming or im just too big now LOL. No matter what happens now, she is in the basic safe zone now..but any baby born before 37 week is still considered preemie. i think shes still gonna be small so i pray no complications will follow...as always..i definately will post updates for all you fabulous mums!!

Hi Lina.

Have you been given the steroid injection to help the baby's lungs develop? I was admitted at 33 weeks and they considered delivering the baby then, so gave me the injection - might be worth asking.

Whilst I was in hospital, a few other ladies were in a similar position to yourself. Bed rest is probably the best way forward and I know its hard, but try not to worry... I know thats so hard..

Very soon you will be 33 weeks, every day that your baby stays put is going to help and although he/she may be premie, they have a really really good chance, even if they need a little help to start. 2 of the ladies who were in hospital when I was delivered at 33 and 34 weeks. Both babies spent some time in the neo-natal unit but both were discharged within a few weeks. I know that this isn't a great deal of help, but just wanted to encourage you that you're doing everything right.

Hang in there, take it easy, and let us know how you get on.

Hugs xxxxxxxxxxxxx

It sounds like you are doing all you can at the moment.  If you are taking medication to try and stop the contractions and are on strict bed rest unfortunately there isn't a lot else you can do.  Like Diz says they should give you some steriod injections to mature your babies lungs in case they are born.  Every day counts so try and relax and rest, read a book, play a game, watch tv anything to try and keep your mind occupied, I am sure each day seems like forever at the moment. Good luck.

No one can really answer how long your baby will stay in hospital until it is born really.  I know that isn't what you wanted to hear.  Some babies do really well born at 35 weeks and could be home in a week others have a harder time of it and stay in until they are a certain weight or until after their due date would have been.  It partly also depends on your hospitals policies on premies as they do vary.  Just take it slowly and conentrate on one thing at a time, try not to worry about what might or might not happen, I know that isn't easy.  You and your baby will get there.
