Hi Ladies..i need your opinion or suggestions on pain relief and just overall tips to manage sciatic pain. waking up this morning put me in alot of pain in my left hip down to below the back of my left knee. I read it was an emergency when there is weakness and numbness which is intermiittent with me. also, i had some loss of bladder control since giving birth 5 days ago and can have some connection in this. i may see the doc later to see what he says but wanted your suggestions as well.  Acetamenophen and 800mg of ibuprofen does not work at all! im currently layingon the opposite side of the affected side and staying off my legs but its asleep and can hardly move it without being in pain.  urggg..thanks everyone for your time!!

In pain, me...........Lina

Oh Lina! So sorry to hear you're having this trouble now. I've never had sciatic pain before, but my sister (Dizie) has, and she found enormous long-term relief from visiting a chiropracter. Is it something that you had before, or has it come on with pregnancy and birth? She also found that warm baths and hot water bottles were quite soothing.

Loss of a degree of bladder control is very common, and probably unavoidable to an extent in a natural birth. I don't know about the association with Sciatica, but you only gave birth 5 days ago! It takes your body a long time to get over that, but with the gentle kegel, or pelvic floor, exercises that you should have been told about, the control will return. Give yourself a chance with that.

Here's hoping you get some joy with your doc, and that the pains ease off soon. Keep us posted, hugs to Kaitlyn.

Your backs going to be pooped for a while after having a baby..takes a while to get back to normal.  Erm, id say best bet is have a hot water bottle and shove it at the base of your spine and see if that does the trick.  Bladder wise, dont stress about it, do your exercises and itll come back.

You only had little madam 5 days ago, chill out a bit chica itll all happen sooner or later.  If your in pain speak to your doc or midwife or whoever you have medical wise and see what they say.  Oh yeah...and stop reading scary symptom stuff.  Catch you later

Lina, I just saw this post and thought, oooo I had that and I went to a chiropractor - but 3smallboys has already told you!

Seriously - it was like a miracle cure. I had this pain in my bum (not 3smallboys...) and it was soooooooo uncomfortable. I couldn't sit still for long as it would build up and up. Anyway, after the 1st session, it was much better, and after 2 more, it had gone.

Mine came about having had Ella, although it didn't manifest until she was older.

Hope you got on ok with the doc. I'd definately recomend a visit to a chiropractor. The one I see has done quite a bit of work with me to correct skelatal misalignments since being pregnant, having Ella and then the after effects and it really has worked. She's also done some work with Ella which has been brilliant.

Hi Lina, I have had sciatica since I was 15 years old and have always been fobbed off with ibuprofen and told we can't do anything about your back! I now know this to be untrue and you should speak to your doc about more stronger treatment for it. Dizie mentioned the chiropractor which I think is a great idea and I'll definitely be following that up with GP after lo is born. Regarding the bladder, it's still early days and it will get better. Practice pelvic floor exercises and give it time.

I wonder if it stems from your SPD? I would DEFINATELY see a chiropractor - one who is used to dealing with women and prgnancy related conditions.

As for the bladder, I'm afraid thats what having a baby does to you! Keep doing your pelvic floor exersizes and you'll be back to normal in no time.

And REST! Get help with lo where you can and remember your body has just been through a major ordeal so give it chance to recover!

I had sciatica for about 4 months of my pregnancy with Ellis - she was lying funny and it was affecting my sciatic nerve.

I totally sympathise with you hun its agony

See what the doc says and then maybe look into the chiropractor route if it gets no better

As has been said the bladder thing is just part and parcel of having a baby and will pass soon

Try and rest as much as you can!!!!

You guys are the best and right on!! my bladder function is getting back to half normal...it hasnt been a week yet and i expected too much of my body. i just never imagined that pg can do this much damage to a body.  I literally feel broken lol.

Thanks for the suggestions..im definately looking forward to visit a chiro as soon as i can reach greater expectations with my body..
