I was absolutely appauled at this!  The thing that sticks in my mind, which littlep has just said was that they were having children to look after them when they were older!!  I would never ever have kids for that reason only.  What I found upsetting - I only saw bits of it - was when the baby fell asleep on the floor - they just left him and also he hasnt got a cot and sleeps on the floor anyway.  These kids need to be taken care of properly, and social services need a right kick up the bum!

Like what everyone has said, and being disabled myself, I am in favour of blind and disabled people having kids, but not for that sole reason and also if they cant cope and theres another on the way, its just a recipe for disaster.

I agree with you all - get them kids outta there!!!

I'm glad i didnt see it! Our neighbours are proper frousty, their kids are antisocial and we frequently hear the kids shouting "get off me, dad please"...Not nice! Social services didnt even come out to investigate, its just shocking what they expect young kids to put up with...and they are both smokers n drinkers too, the dad also shouts at kids outside hes proper violent. Its such a shame that kids are bought out into the hard world and expectec to live with parents that only care about themselves.

I hope social services step in its a chilling thought that the girl attempted suicide!

I saw the trailers and didn't watch the programme, I agree with you all and hope that the producers had a duty of care to follow up on this story and ensure that the children were visited by social services and removed for their own protection and, though unsure of the system at the moment, placed in a secure loving environment.  The unreasonable expectations of parents and abusive treatment of their offspring can never be condoned be it by a disabled or able bodied parent.

I only caught the last 20 mins of this and was disgusted! I worked with blind and partially sighted, and they are great parets, but these two I think would probably have been lazy and selfish even if they could see. I was appalled at the state of the house and kids. The adults could see well enough to light fags and pour beer into glasses, but not enough to change nappies or clean the house!?! I know disabled people are sometime proud and don't like asking for help, but to point blank refuse help and expect the older girls to do everything is totally unacceptable! The programme mentioned a young carers network, or something that the girls were able to get help from. Surely an organisation like that has responsibility to investigate when kids are being exploited! Social services should also step in and insist that they get help! The older girl was ademant (sp?) she didn't want children of her own because she'd spent all her childghood looking after babies, and I don't blame her! Being treated like that would put me off for life too!!!!
