I weaned Megan at 8weeks, and Liam at erm...gosh i forgot about 15weeks...I never made my own i just buy jars...i dont have time to do that with my 2 lol...They put ages on there for a guide only...you know your baby better than anyone else, the signs for me was they were watching me eat and getting excited, smackin their lips a lot...and waking a little earlier...i started just giving them a little breakfast then introducing more meals as time went on! If you do decide to try just watch out for constipation lol! xxx

Are you breastfeeding or formula feeding? If breastfeeding your little one should get all they need from the milk until 6 months. Saying that I weaned at 16 weeks because a stupid hv told me to and its the worst mistake I've ever made and meal times were a battle for months because of that. I think only you can know your baby so just follow the babys lead.

I made all my own food and it was really easy. I started with fruit and veg purees then went on to mixes then to proper meals. Almost everthing can be frozen. I froze mine into icecube trays so I could just pop out what I needed and it was all made in advance. I used Anabel Karmels book for guideance and it was really helpful. I also felt really good knowing everything my son ate was home cooked and healthy.

I began weaning thomas at 16 weeks, although it is recommended that
babies should not be weaned until 6 months
i had an annabelle camel book but found it too fancy.
I then bought Lorraine Kelly's book (recommended ly lynie) and it was
great.
I made all thomas' food, the book is so easy to follow and it gives you a
good food guide to babys day and all the nutritional stuff you need to
know.
I made food in batches and put some in ice cube trays in the freezer. i
am looking forward to doing it all again with bump (cooking not weaning
!!)

Louise was weaned at 4 months.  HV told us to wean her at 6 months but by then she must have been starving and has progressed well since! As others have said, you know your baby better x

They say the best time now is 6 months but to be honest i don't think anyone waits this long.

My girls were 5 months when i started but in theory they were 3 months. This is because they were 8 weeks early so you have to go back 2 months. xxxx

I weaned Ella at 15 weeks, with the support of my HV. I hung out as long as I could, but she was drinking 50 oz plus a day of hungry baby milk.

The guidelines say 4 to 6 months, but encourage you to wait until 6 months as this significantly reduces the chance of allergies and intollerences to foods, and also more importantly, the digestive systems are better prepared.

I know 2 babies who got to 6 months before being weaned, but it is only 2! 1 was breastfed, 1 was forumla fed. I really do think its down to the individual child.

I did a mix of making my own and using jars and packets. I made veg pures at home and it was really really easy. I would either have a cook up one afternoon and freeze loads, or I'd do some of what every veg we were having. With fruits, I did apple, banana and pear myself, but then I bought jars at it was more cost effective. I also used jars if we went out as it was more convenient, and places don't usually like to heat home made food.

Cow and Gate do a free weaning pack which I found really useful. You don't have to use C&G products to get it, you can just ring the helpline which is on thier website.

hth
