I weaned all mine at some point just before 16 weeks as they were ravenous the whole time! At the time, the advice was 4 months, but I know they would never have made it to 6.

As long as you stick to plain fruits and veg up to 6 months to make sure you avoid the common allergy triggers, like wheat.

I found the fruit purees work out cheaper to buy, and they're certainly easier than making your own, but veg purees are a cinch. Like Diz said, just make a bit extra of what you're having and whizz it in the blender, or boil up a load at once and freeze a batch in ice cube trays or small plastic pots.

I would say follow your babies pattern!  I have 5 kids the first three i was advised to start them at about 3 months my 4th I was told not til he was 6 months, however as he was downing 60oz a day, I had to wean him at 6 weeks!  He was a big hungry monster, as for the timy one, I started him at about 12 weeks and he is coming on in leaps and bounds, there isn't a single texture he won't eat at the moment, He has gagged on mince, and weetabix, but if I'm persistent he does eat them! lol I used jars with the first, but stewing and pureeing fruit is very simple, and I'm not kidding you if I can do it anyone can!  And it's a lazy thing to do as well, buy loads of ice cube trays then when they are frozen put them into a bag and make some more!  All you have to do then is defrost and warm! Very simple, just the way I like it.

i tried weaning  svannah at around 16 weeks and she screamed the house down so i waited until she was 6 months she still used to scream the house down but i persisted, she was around 9 months when she began to eat properly and then she wouldnt drink milk, she is still a really fussy eater and the health visitor said it was my fault as i must of made her scared of food! (ok!!!)

wentworth i started at about 10 weeks because he drinks about 12oz a milk a day and was hungry and not gaining weight. he will be 6 months next week and he still hasnt slept thru the night, he only just weighs 16lb and was 8lb 6oz born.

so although he now eats 4 meals a day he still wont sleep.

you will know when your little one is ready for food. he will soon start to tell you my advice would be not to push it on him and wait until he is absolutely ready.

I weaned Joseph at 9weeks.  He was a hungry baby, on the 2nd milk at 3 weeks and still taking 6oz every 2 1/2 hours day and night.  I remember taking him to the HV and she was about to start offering me weaning advice at 11 weeks and when I laughed she knew he was being weaned but wasnt surprised,

I waited until the 6 months, but tbh, mine weren't ready until then anyway. I think it all depends on the baby. Some are hungrier (sp?) than others
