Nope it's not a mini me, it's a very small and very simple to use digital camcorder.
We've got a camcorder, we bought about 8 years ago while in Gibraltar, it was at the time a good one and I guess it still is but we never use it, I was thinking the other day we have no real footage of Ols or any other memorable occasions in our life.
The reason is that the Sony Handycam that we have is just not that, Handy I mean, by the time you chuck in the tapes, the spare battery, the bag etc, it's quite a lump to be carrying around with you, especially on a day to day basis and it's those day to day moments I wanted to start capturing.
My mobile phone has camera on but it's not much good, I guess that's because at the end of the day, it's primarily a phone and not a camera but that brings me to the next reason I don't use the Camcorder or the phone and that is, it's just to hard to then take what you've shot and easily convert it to a medium that you can share and distribute.
We've got all sorts saved on 8mm tape that I just have not found the time to capture to the PC, edit and then burn to DVD and to be honest I doubt I ever will.
So any way to cut a long story short, after some internet researching, we purchased a Flip Mino last week and it's fantastic, it's one of those Gadgets that you wonder how you managed to get along before you had one, like the Mobile Phone or Frozen Pizza . Seriously though it's tremendous and the secret to it's beauty is it's simplicity. There are no fancy settings to get used to, there is basically one button, to start recording and the same button stops recording, it's a simple "what you see is what you capture" camera, the quality is surprising good even in low light and the sound is brilliant.
The smart part though and the real beauty is when it comes to processing your video, because you simply pull a lever and a USB connector pops out the top of the camera, which you use to connect to your Windows PC or Mac and that's it, the software loads from the camera's internal memory and runs a wizard which then allows you with a few simple clicks of the mouse to save the Videos in High Quality on your PC, burn to DVD, Compact them and send then via email to friends or share then online by uploading to Video Sites such as YouTube.
Don't forget any Video you upload to Youtube you can then in-bed it in your posts here at Madmums to share with others.
The camera itself is very small and compact, smaller than the average mobile phone, so it fits in your pocket or bag easily, meaning you can have on hand to capture all those moments in your life that you could never before
Anyway it's probably the best £119 we've spent in a long time, yes I know it's not cheap but for what it does I don't personally think it's that expensive. So if you can afford one, I would most defiantly recommend one and if you can't afford one, get saving, lol because you're missing out.
Anyway if anyone is interested Firebox has them (cough) who is an affiliate , but I am not recommending it because of that, I genuinely love this camera!

It's really handy because all of our families live overseas so now we can send them little moments of Ols so easily. Also Keith sends me little films to work via email. Everyone pops in to see Ollie tidying up, eating his lunch or being funny, all gathered around my pc in my office at work. Keith sent me a clip of Ols tidying his toys away the other day and I showed it to the production team as they are so untidy, to teach them how to tidy up and put away ready for another day...

Here it is, obviously the quality of the Youtube clip, that the software makes is no where near as good as the original footage shot and saved on the PC, this is because it reduces the physical size of the movie for the web, to make it easier to view.

Some members seem confused about embedding Youtube Videos in posts, so to clear up the confusion, no you never used to be able to do it but I've made some changes recently so you now can.
To embed the video simply surround the URL (*NOT the Embed parameters but the actual URL) that you get in Youtube with the following tags (I've add the extra .. so it shows the example of the tags and not the actual video)
So to re-literate you need the actual URL not the Embed bit, as per this picture I've done for those that are feeling a little challenged

That looks ace, i might drop hints to df about one of these. He bought me a new sony one last year before we went away and its like a brick compared to that one!! I'd love to be able to upload videos, but im usless and df is even worse, he cant even get the wii online
Ols looks really grown up there, if you keep him on that track you wont have a hazardous bedroom to worry about when he is older lol
