Hi Madmums,

I had my beautiful baby daughter Mirren 5 week ago.She is the best thing thats ever happened to me but I'm absolutely shattered.Being nearly 40 I'm a mature mother and when it comes to changing nappies and feeding at 3 in the morning I certainly feel my age.Does anyone else get really confused with eveybody giving them coflicting advice.I felt like a failure the other day when asked if she was in a routine yet and I said no.Any helpful hints would be welcome,Maureen and Mirren

Hi Maureen and a very warm welcome to Madmums

Firstly, Congratulations on the birth of Mirren, and secondly, you are doing just fine as a mum! Is she your first?

I dont think it matters what age you are, being a new mum certainly takes the wind out of your sails!!  Please dont feel like a failure - I certainly hadnt established a routine at 5 weeks!!  Too way longer than that for me - but we eventually got there!

By the way, Im Nikki, 31, mum to Lewis who is nearly two and a half, Im married and we live in Durham.

Look forward to seeing you about on here!! xxxx

Hi Maureen!

It comes with the territory, when you have a baby, all those "well meaning" advisors that just end up making you feel more confused and failing!  Marry that with the lack of sleep and it can be a downward spiral!  Don't worry, we've all been there and have felt like that.

Congratulations on the birth of Mirren (what a lovely name) and just try to enjoy her as before you know it she'll be grown!  We're all here to offer support and virtual listening ears, you've come to the right place!

I'm Lynn and I'm from a wee place near Glasgow by the way, and am mum to Alex who's 5, Emilie who's 2 and I'm expecting twins in December.

Thanks for all of the support it helps to know you're not the only one who feels a bit out of depth. It must have helped me talking about routines last night as Mirren ,5 weeks old, slept a full 6 hours.I feel like a new person this morning, long may it continue.Has anyone else had problems with their little one having a blocked tear duct,I'vebeen given eye drops but they don't help.Look forward to hearing from you Maureen and Mirren.

Hiya, Im Amy mummy to Adam 3, and Zarah 8 mths. Im also 25 weeks preg. Im only 22 but feel like a zombie most days so dont worry about that! I started at about 6 weeks to get a routine even then we still went with the flow. Both my babies had blocked tear ducts and its nothing to really worry about. Just keep using the drops and keep them clean and it should unblock itself eventually. Anyway congratulations on the birth of your daughter and hope to chat soon x

Hello and Welcome

I am Fee and I am married with 2 girls, Ellis 6 and Lily 2

We live in Scotland

Mirren is a lovely name - my daughter has friend called that (useless piece of info for ya!!)

As has been said just smile and nod at "advice" givers they mean well but you stick to what you are doing and what works for you.

Your wee one is only 5 weeks so I wouldn't worry about the routine part of it yet - she'll get into one when both of you are good and ready

We have all been through it and this is a great place to get support/help or even just to vent!!

xx

Hi and welcome to you and Mirren, what a pretty name.

I'm Hazel, 34 and mum to Rebekah 16, Sophie 5 and Adam 2.5. We all live way up North in the Scottish Highlands with my hubby Andy.

Don't worry about not having aroutine in place, you will get there in the end and yes it is very hard and tiring but don't let anyone make you feel bad, xxx.

hello and welcome to madmums!

I'm Greedy and have two daughters, Ellie 2.5 yrs and Hannah 6 months next week.

Let me tell you, you're doing a fab job getting 6 hrs kip so you must be doing something right!  Hannah is 6 months and I don't get that even now lol.

Don't worry about the routine thing too much, ours has only just come together in the last few weeks...

hope you enjoy the site!

Congrats on the little one! Your routine will kick in without you even thinking about it, and as for everyone advice, listen to all of it , but only do the bits you like and stuff the rest in a box somewhere for burning at a later date!!!! Dont ever let anyone tell you that you re doing something wrong, if thats the way you want to do it.... go girl!! As for sleeping, 6hours at only 5 weeks is brill!! My daughter was 2 1/2 before she slept that long, by which time I d had twins, who were 14 months before they slept 6 hours!!! so count yourself lucky huny!!!!!

My name is Jain and kids are Megan (9 3/4) and Jamie and Matthew who are 7.

We live in Pembrokeshire, SW Wales.
