Hiya Ladies,

I'm just after your views on children modeling?
There was an advertisement in the kids school newsletter looking for children of all ages to join a modeling agency, and i've been thinking about this for a while, but im not really sure, so just wondered what you girls thought?

It would be for things such as catalouges, leaflets, posters, magazines etc etc.

Is there any harm in this do you think?
I appreciate your opinions either way, and if anyone has any experience with this, good or bad.. i'd love to hear it.
Thanks in advance
Amanda

Urm i haven't even thought it a possibility with my 2! lol

I would make sure though if there's a phone number i'd give them a bell and ask them what would they expect out of the kids and you?

How often would they be required?

Do they make them wear make up?

Are the people around them CRB checked.

What happens to picture and negatives where are they stored for child protection issues?

Can you stay present at all times and bring family with you. (probably common sense but it's sometimes better to check than assume.)

I don't see anything wrong with it as long as it doens't affect there schooling or aren't put in compromising positions and you and your child/children are happy thats all that matters.

Well thats my 2 cents worth, lol.

I thought about it for Joshua last year, he adores the camera in front and behind it. I went along to a open day where a company was recruiting, and although they were lovely they wanted £180 to build up a portfolio, which I thought was a lot of money. That was also a 12 month contract, that guaranteed at least 1 job (doesn't say what or how big etc) If they dont find work after 12 months you get the money back. I couldn't afford that right then, plus I only went for a look. Joshua had a great day with all the lights and caneras they did test shots etc I did do some internet research after but struggled to find much. I am still interested in it for Joshua, but wouldn't know where to start.

If you think your los will enjoy doing it, there is no harm in finding out more. You dont need to part with money for asking questions, if you dont feel its right for you and your los you dont need to commit.

**All the angencies I looked at said that for normal work children wouldnt be expected to travel more than 1 hour for a photo shoot, plus photos werent allowed to be taken during school hours. There seemed to be a lot of guidelines about ensuring the child didnt miss school.

I looked into it but it seemed to be that unless you were in London or Manchester it was very difficult to get on the books of the top agencies.

Also you shouldnt be expected to pay out for a portfollio first.

As long as the children are good natured and happy around strangers they should be ok, shy or over active children are not suitable.

There is also a lot of travelling and sitting round waiting.

I would spend a bit of time looking into the particular agency - speak to them, and ask to speak to families who are already on their books.

I'm sure I have read articles in the past - I'll try and hunt them out.
