Just seen that eBay have finally introduced the proposed change to their feedback system, where buyers can no longer receive negative or neutral feedback from sellers, they are hoping this will encourage buyers to leave more honest feedback about sellers without fear of 'revenge' negative feedback being put on them, I think it was the BBC that made a program about this.

Might be good move, not so good though for some sellers

I am an Ebay seller and i am not 100% sure about the new changes, i really think it's open to abuse to be honest. Unfortunately there are people who will just make up ebay ID's and buy things from you and leave negative feedback without paying and getting ebay to remove such feedback is a pain.

I also buy loads off ebay too so i see it from a buyer point of view and yes it will encourage buyers to be more truthful but they could also get a little too carried away.

I think another set of rules comes into play, if you report a buyer as a none payer.

Quote: eBay Feedback Rules

Before feedback is left

  1. We’ll remind all buyers about to leave negative or neutral feedback for a seller to get in touch with the seller first, and to allow plenty of time for their item to arrive (we’ll also include a specific reminder for cross-border purchases).
  2. Sellers will have more control over who they allow to bid on and buy their items thanks to an enhanced Buyer Requirements tool. For the first time, they’ll be able to block bidders who have been reported for policy breaches and non-payment. We’ll launch these enhancements at the end of May.
  3. Buyers will be able to leave feedback for 60 days after a transaction (down from 90 days).
  4. If a seller is a PowerSeller and has been on the site for at least a year, buyers will not be able to leave negative or neutral feedback for 7 days after their transaction.

After feedback is left

  1. We’ll remove negative or neutral ratings if a seller opens an Unpaid Item claim and the buyer either doesn’t respond or doesn’t specifically say the seller is at fault.
  2. We’ll remove negative or neutral ratings left by a buyer if they’re subsequently permanently suspended from the site.
  3. We’ll base Feedback percentage scores on the last 12 months’ activity (rather than on lifetime activity) so that negative feedback doesn’t permanently affect a seller’s reputation.
  4. We’ll be launching a dedicated hub for sellers to report malicious or unfair feedback from buyers.

I think that this is a good thing as i have read some comments and some can be quite personal and nasty and it just seems the seller is upset about honset feedback, and wants to wreck the buyers feedback.

Thats not right but i have recently had a negative feedback from a buyer who bought a massive bead collection for jewellery making.

She bought the item, paid for it and i sent it. I only take returns if anything is damaged or not as described. A day or so after i have posted the beads, she gets in contact with me saying that she would like to return them for a refund even although they havent even turned up.

Her reason was that she bid on another bead collection and she didnt bid as much as she did on my auction but she still won her other auction. So she wanted to return her item to me.

I refused because as far as i am concerned, you bid, you commit to buy, you win auction, you pay then i as a seller dispatch the goods. If you are not prepared to complete a sale then dont bid.

So now i have a negative feedback because of a buyer being unreasonable. I've emailed ebay to have it removed but it really does take forever.

So im afraid it is open to abuse for buyers who are half wits.

Sorry, rant over !!!!!!!!!!!!

I have also had a negative feedback left unfairly, i described the item as honestly as possible and the guy still came saw it and bought it, could have walked away! Then over a month later he leaves us neg feedback without contacting us first and giving us a chance to try and rectify any problems! Ebay won't remove it either, and i think personally a month is too long to leave it to leave feedback, i mean he could have wrote the car off, run it into the ground and all sorts by then lol and that has no reflection on the way i sold it!

I refuse to sell on there anymore as there is no protection from people like him, they say they must contact the seller first and when they dont, ebay refuse to remove the bad reputation this person has given me!

The new system only came into play this week, bug your feedback is not related to the new system, it's from February and he would have left you negative feedback regardless.

There are lots of awful sellers on eBay that have bullied buyers for to long, if you are good seller then you really have nothing to worry about and if anything something like this will benefit you because it will separate the wheat from chaff and reduce the competition.

I mainly buy on eBay and on two separate occasions I've been subjected to 'Arm Twisting' by sellers to not leave negative feedback, once recently where a widely available DVD took 5 weeks to arrive;

Can I ask you that if you feel that no positive feedback is due then can you please not leave me negative of neutral feedback. This is because as if I have too many of these within a 30 day span then eBay will restrict my selling ability and potentially close my eBay shop. In turn will affect my family livelihood as this our sole business.

You'll never please all the people all of the time and most sellers will get some negative feedback sometime but if the majority of your feedback is positive with good remarks any potential buyers will see that.

Hopefully we will now be better able to judge sellers because they will in the future have honest and fair feedback that has not been distorted.
