Dh and I have sat last night and have decided to ttc in august when We get home from New York. I don't think we ever be ready at this point, we keep changing our minds.

I know all about your fertile days and ovulation and and mucus and so on but what I don't know is about the base line temperature. I know that there is a rise in temp when you ovulate. How long do you need to map this or is it necessary.....do you use all methods (temp, mucus, ovulation kits) or just one ?

My cycle ranges from 26 to 28 days...so far I think I ovulate in day 14.

The other question I want to ask is that my friend just told me she is 9  weeks pg so am I being selfish going again while she is expecting. this is her first baby and there is a group of 5 of us that have been very close friends since school.

Any one got kids with a 2 1/2 year age gap ? am I nuts going again so soon ?

Personally i live my life when i want too, we did hold back on telling my sd's about our pg as their mum was having a baby and didn't want the girls to be distracted from the events in their mum's life, but as far as friends go they should be happy whatever you decide.
When dd was born ds was just turned 2 and he took things very well and was more of a help than a hinderence (can't spell) he watched her and helped with the chores of feeding and cleaning and it has made them quite close now which is lovely to watch, that is not saying that they don't fight because they do but generally i think that there is no right or wrong time its just when it happens how you deal with it that counts.
As for the cycle part of things, i never had to do any of that so i wouldn't know, but good luck ttc.

Right then, basal body temperature (BBT) charting is actually very easy to do, as long as you remember to take your temperature as soon as you wake every morning. I did this when we were ttc Ella, and with my last pregnancy. I'm charting my temps again now to try and work out what my body is doing post miscarriage. At the moment, I'm only charting BBTs and not mucus etc. You can chart them all or just some.

I bought a fertility diary from boots for about £12 which had a book of charts and a digital thermometer. When you ovulate, your BBT increases very slightly so by charting your BBTs, you can learn when in your cycle you ovulate. This temperature shift that you are looking for to chart ovulations is very slight so you need a thermometer that goes to at least 2 decimal places. You can also chart online, one site thats good for that is HERE. You can download the software at try it for 15 days and if you like it, its about £20. You'd need to buy a thermometer but it draws the chart for you and tells you when you're most fertile days are likely to be. You can see my chart HERE if you'd like an idea of what it looks like.

As for when the right time is, only you can decide that. Don't worry about what other people are doing as ultimately, its your life and your child and if the time is right for you, then you go for it.

Good luck!

I use bbt, cervical position. cervical fluid and opk's.  Most of the time they coralate and indicate the same time for ovulation.  Ocassionaly opk's indicate ovulation but then it doesn't happen for 48hrs afterwards.  My chart is here if you would like to look at it.  Your baseline temp changes slightly month to month depending on your temps prior to ovulation and post ovulation.  Your luteal phase (post ovulation) doesn't tend to vary by more than 1-2 days a month it will always be roughly the same.  Pre ovulation can change if you are ill, stressed or have done alot of travelling especially overseas to a different time zone.  You can use one method or all methods depends how confident you feel with any one method.  The only true way to tell if you have ovulated without having an ultrasound is to chart your bbt.

As for age gaps there was 4 yrs between my daughters as it took me 3yrs to fall pregnant.  Ollie is 2 1/2 and we have been trying for a year now.  Only you can decide when it's a good time to conceive.

I also wouldn't leave trying to conceive because of a friends circumstances.  You have to do what you feel is right for you and your family.

I haven't really got a lot to add on from what others have said, but just wanted to say again, you do what is right for you. We are going to start ttc very soon and everybody has told me (mum, dad, brother etc) that I shouldn't because the girls are still so young. But when I actually sat down and thought about it, I don't think anytime is going to be the right time and if I waited for the right time, it would never happen.

Sorry I've rambled on a bit, but just wanted to say that.

Good luck with whatever you decide

x

As the others have said only you and dh know when the time is right and there really isn't an ideal gap.I have 4 years between dd and ds1 and then 9 years between ds1 and Harry. Big gaps, but still problems just a different kind to someone who has a smaller gap.

Good luck with whatever decision you make and don't let your friends affect your decision.
