I've breastfed all 3 of my ds. Jaden now 11 weeks has been the most demanding though. Igive him the odd bottle here and there but it's mostly breast he wants.

Edward is 12 weeks and I alwats bf (except the odd bottle of expressed if i go out. Hes good as gold and feeds really well most of the time. He feeds approx every 3 hours and i wish he would go longer as it does affect what you can do. Saying that I am one of these people who will feed anywhere, I am descret but i will not go and hide in a toilet to feed. I have never had any complaints. I love breastfeeding and hope i can carry on for a long time yet... although i wish my boobs would stop leaking everywhere!!!

I am still breastfeeding my 7 month old. We both enjoy it so much, I am planning on doing so until he's 1. So far he's got two little bottom teeth and fingers crossed, he's not bitten me (yet!)
I am a HUGE fan of BF'ing. Rocky has never had a cold or been poorly and he is a picture of health. I 'm sure me feeding him helped build up his immune system. Is anyone still breastfeeding beyond 6 months? I would love to hear your experiences....

hello,
I have been breastfeeding my 8week old since birth. i have found it very hard work. I got mastitis at three weeks, i had it for two weeks before they even realised (mw) and i cried every time he fed from me. It was so bad all the skin came off from my nipples - but i stuck to it. I have started giving him a formula on a night now. He has started feeding loads more now though and i dont feel like i am satisfying him now. i have my 6week check tomorrow (2weeks late!) so im going to have a good talk with healthvisitor. I dont want to stop feeding myself but its getting difficult and im going back to work in two months full time - the other thing is also, i can only express first thing in a morning. i cant get anything during the day even if i give him a formula and he skips a feed from me? - i know that its been working as he has put loads of weight on - but im finding it harder rather than easier - got what a load of whaffle!!!

Hi Keangr,
Oh poor you, getting mastitis. It sounds like you are really persevering through the pain. I'm lucky in that I had no problems like that - Rocky took to feeding well from the start. I can completely understand though what you're going through. I did find it a bit painful at first, but like I said, never had any probs and we both settled into it. Babies feed more when they go through a growth spurt, which may be why your lo 's appetite has increased. You could drop a feed or two gradually which is what I did and now I only feed Rocky in the morning and evening (plus a bottle of expressed at 3pm). This might fit in with your day seeing as you're going back to work.
If your baby is gaining weight then you are absolutely doing the right thing. Best of luck tomorrow x

Breastfeeding can be so painful. People that say it is only painful when they are not latched on properly don't always know what they are talking about. With my first dd I gave up breastfeeding after 8days. The pain was to much and as a first time Mum I just didn't have the support at the time. With my 2nd dd I was determined to do it. I had mastitus, thrush in my nipples, blisters and cracks and the pain from my let down curled my toes for the first 6wks it was horrid. I ended up feeding my 2nd dd for 3yrs. Not from any great earth mother type thing but because she had infantile colitus and couldn't tolerate a lot of protiens or lactose. With Ollie I have had no problems at all. I had about 2days where the let down was a little uncomfortable. I don't leak all the time either with Ollie like I did with the girls. I used to use a box of breast pads a day with Fran my 2nd dd but with Ollie I only use one a day. It's a huge learning curve for you and lo so hang in there. If you do go onto formula feed instead of breast feeding it's no big deal as long as you and your lo are happy and healthy do what is right for you.
