I have decided to start weaning Ellie onto a bottle as she is almost 6 months old and I feel ready to do it now - I am not sure of the best way to do this so I'd appreciate any advice/tips -

what I was going to do was start with the lunch time feed and swop this for a bottle, then wait about 4-5 days and do the 4pm one, then another 4-5 days, do the 11pm one and any in the night, then 4-5 days, the bedtime one and then finally the morning one (my boobs always seem to fill up most thru the night)  - should take me a couple of weeks?

I am worried about having sore boobs tho - DH did one nighttime feed with a bottle last night and I gave Ellie a bottle at lunchtime and my left boob is now about 4 times it's normal size and ready to pop - I might have to feed her early just to get some relief!!!

I feel a bit sad that I'm going to stop but I also do feel the time is right - she isn't my tiny little baby any more and it will be nice for us both to have a bit more freedom - I think I'll be very emotional when I feed her for the last time and I just hope I won't be tempted to give in in the night when she's crying and I've got massive boobs!!!

Any tips appreciated!!  Thanks

Sympathies i have this week given up my last feed that i was still giving Rianna, and i was very sad, but pleased i did so well, i had to as i went back to work this week. i did what you will be doing gradually wean her 1 feed at a time, and i found doing it this way we both adapted better and i didnt get sore boobs, but i will say once you have mde the decision and are certain you want to do it, dont give in cos it will onyl set you back, but if you do change your mind after a week or 2 dont panic as it takes 3 weeks for your milk to dry up and you can always build it up again.

Good Luck and i hope it goes well for you.

Sounds like you have a good plan Greedy.  If your boobs get sore you could always use a warm flannel or hand express a little bit off just for comfort.

i weaned tom of v. slowly cos he likes his boob

i just reduced the amount of feeds during the day but still b/f him the one time at night.  when i got sore i would express a lil and mix it up in his solids

i stopped daytime b/f when he was 3 and a half months.  i finally stopped all together about a fortnight ago with no problems or regrets.  i thought i would feel sad but i have b/f both my babies and am now happy they have all the antibodies needed and have had the best start possible, but dh and i want me to have my boobs back (tmi i know!)  i didn't get stressed or worried about it and just let tom lead me really

he takes the bottle really well.  hope it works out for you and lo too

Good luck hun, it sounds like you have a good plan there. As Sam said you can hand express a little just to take the pain away when your boobs fill up.

I couldnt imagine not feeding Ed myself at the moment. I give him an occasional bottle to keep him used to the idea in case I ever go out and its so wierd. My body aches for him. I'm not sure when I'll give up completely.

We will all be here to support you through it.
