I'm absolutely gutted!  When Billy was born I was told he weighed 6lb 15oz.  I accepted it and carried on as usual, informiong all my friends and family of the weight.  When he was weighed at 7 days old he was 7lb 10oz, this seemed wierd as they often lose in their first week, never mind gaining so much.  The midwife checked my records and said the recorded birth weight was 3.315kg, which is infact 7lb 5oz.  There was no way of knowing if I was told the wrong weight at the birth or if it had been written down wrong.

Well, I've just found out the truth...I found a photo of Billy on the scales just after the birth and the records were right, he did weight 3.315kg which means his birth weight was 7lb 5oz, not 6lb 15oz as i was told.  I cant believe it, this has really got to me, and I doubt there is anything I can do about it.

Thats terrible hunny!!! Its the first thing people ask when you've just given birth 'how much do they weigh?' and you've been told wrong, and quite a bit wrong!! Like you say though, I'm not sure what you could do. At least you know the truth, although I'm sure you still feel bad,I know I would! Glad Billy's doing well!!

What a palaver! My midwife told me Zarah weighed 5lb 16oz but wrote down 5lb 15 oz so Im not too sure but what she told you is way off! Personally I would have a moan to someone as it would annoy the hell out of me. At least you know the truth now though.

I'm sorry Jen thats really unfair! I would write a letter explaining how upset it made you. I know it wont help you but maybe they will be more careful in future and wont upset another mother this way.

He is a gorgeous chappy!

i hate how they weigh babies in KG - it means nothing to me
when roisin was born they told us in kg and we worked it out to be 8lb
7oz and told everyone that's what she weighed but in actual fact - our
calculations were wrong and her birthweight was 8lb 11oz !

you should complain. honestly - sometimes wonder what planet these
folk are on

How lucky is that, that you had a photograph of Billy on the scales then.
At least with that though, you have proof of his right weight, instead of wondering which one was right!!
It would have annoyed me a lot more if i was left not knowing.
I dont think there is much you can do apart from expressing your upset over it in a letter and all you'll get is a sorry at best anyway.

gosh that is very unfair...what if it had gone the other way and you were told he weighed more...would they have been a big panic when he was weighed again because acording to the scales he would be after loosing too much weight ?????

I really think we place too much trust in our doctors and midwifes and while they do a fantistic job, they too make misteaks and we should not be ashamed to question them.
