Ok went for my scan on monday, the baby is breech footling, so i had to see a consultant who has booked me in for a c-section at 39 weeks. As an after thought he informed me and dh that I would have 2 stay in hospital until the section! So panic stations happened lots of tears, dh sent home for bags and stuff. I stayed in monday nite then 5pm on Tuesday a senior consultant came and offered to try and turn the baby, which we decided to decline and then she said I could come home! So home I came.

Its confusing isnt it!
I'm sure many of us have had the experience of being told one thing by one consultant and something different by another. Its quite worrying really as how do we know what is right if they all say different things.
Glad you were able to come home, make sure you get lots of rest though.

Most consultants do things because in their experience X or Y has worked best for them historically, they have been taught things differently by different doctors or they have been involved in differenet research projects. It doesn't mean one consultants way is better than another consultants way it's just different. I have never heard of anyone having to stay in due to a footling breach, Ols was and I didn't have to stay in. If they attempt to turn your baby then quite often they will keep you in for 24 hours afterwards to make sure your waters don't rupture or your baby go into distress. Was it actually the consultant that told you to stay in hospital or the registra, SHO or HO? If it was a HO or SHO they aren't always up to date with the protocol of different consultants as they move around so much.

He was a consultant. But the lady who said I could come home was his senior! No wonder the mws on the ward seemed shocked i was there! He said it was in case I started getting contractions or my waters broke, they could do the section within minutes. But the senior consultant said it wasn't a problem as I only live 10 mins from the hospital anyway! But then the 1st fella said they couldn't try and turn a footling breech as the foot that was dangling would cause problems but the senior consultant said it wouldn't make any difference! Who knows!
