hello

its amazing how many people have tiny prems isnt it. i recognise a few names on here too!

my youngest son charlie was born at 26+0 weighing 660g or 1lb 7oz. he was in heart failiure before he was born and was flat at birth. the staff were amazing and intubated him straight away. after 3 days he got nec (necrotising entorocolitis) and we very nearly lost him. he lost quite a bit of weight and dropped down to 540g or 1lb 3oz. he then had to have an op at this weight at 2wks old for a broviac. he also had 2 small ivh and a pda that thankfully closed with a couple of doses of meds. he had 3x sepsis. he spent 5wks on and off the ventilator and then came off c-pap at 9wks. he then went onto low flow oxygen and came home on this. he came home on oxygen, sats alarm, and apnea alarm as he was still having apnea and braddies and desats.

it hasnt been an easy road at all but he really is a specail little boy. charlie is now 2 1/2 yrs old and a little monster lol. he does still have a lot of issues and probably always will do.

he still needs oxygen at times for his bpd/chronic lung disease

he was fed by ng tube but had a gastrostomy nearly 2wks ago

he had his tonsils and adenoids out to try and stop his apnea, it has helped but he still has a few.

he has hypermobility syndrome and sees pt and wears piedro boots

he has asthma and excma

he has some bad behaviour problems and a lot of autistic traits but he is too young to dx

his weight has always been a big issue but within a week of having the g peg he gained 400g so hopefully his weight will improve now. a few weeks ago he was 21lb and he is now about 23lb.

he is a very boisterous little boy who runs climbs and headbutts everything lol.

i am super proud of my little man!

You have everything to be be proud of!  He sounds like he is a real fighter. My almost 11 month old is already 22lb 7oz, it really is amazing what we take for granted!  Thank you for sharing this nikki. I wish him well for his future.

Love

I know its just amazing. My los have only ever been 5 days early so I have never had to go through the heart ache and worry. And now he is 2 and half..

Sound like you have been through the mill, i could not imagine myself coping with all that , i thought that my lo was bad because he has breath holding episodes, we had E.E.G's, E.C.G's M.R.I  and elctordes stuck on his head and many more tests all this because he has a temper, we had an isuse with his weight because he was underweight until he was a year old, but that is because he is fussy, but you are right i am very proud of my son aswell.

Aww bless him hun he sound like a real fighter. Its horrible watching them go through all the things they have to. I know it was hard for me when mine were only 8 wks early. There was a girl though who had a little boy who was born at 24 wks. He went home a few days after i had the girls and he had been in for months. I know we were really lucky because the girls didn't have any help with anything. But i also know that if it wasn't for the hospital they wouldn't have made it either.

Mine are now 14 months and are little toerags at times but are little angels most of the time. I find that alot of prem babies are more contempt compared to full term babies what do you think?
