When you lo's started potty training, did they seem scared of the potty at first?

Over the last week, Lauren has stared to tell me when she has been and I thought that was the first sign they were ready (their 19 months). When I take her nappy off and sit her on it, she is petrified and clings to me. I'm not sure how to deal with this.

Also Ashleigh won't even sit on it. She really is scared.
They both will sit on it with nappies on though.

Any advice would be appreciated

x

It's gonna be something that they need to conquer!  Having said that ds1 was petrified of the potty for a while, I can't remember how to over come it, I know at one point I ended up putting a bit of water in the bottom of it, so that he saw it was ok.  Have you tried them on a toilet seat?  I found ds 1 preferred this and after a while was ok with the potty?  Just a thought!

Ryan is the same, he'll sit on the potty  with clothes on but not without a nappy

On the other hand he loves to sit on the big toilet but still hasnt done anything

Id say just leave it out and let them get used to it being a fixture.  Isla spent ages putting her toy babies on the potty etc.  I didnt start potty training her til the summer holidays last year when she was 2nd a bit..was so much easier...had the potty from when she was over 1..and she played with it for ages.
