Hiya all,

My two sil's have two lo's each, they both have boys (one sil has 2 boys and the other has one of each). one lo will be 3 in August and the other lo will be 3 in November.

Neither of them have even started to potty train yet ???

Is this the norm ? They both say it's because boys are slower to potty train that girls.

I always thought that you should start to potty train when the child is 2.

My lo is only 9 months so I am a bit off the potty training just yet but i just was a bit curious.

I was also thinking that if they were going to play school in September, would they not need to be out of nappies ???

It really depends on the child. Sophie was a late trainer and we had loads of setbacks. She was able to go to nursery even though she was still in pull ups.

I don't think there is a time/age limit as to when a lo 'should' be potty trained.  My advice is to let the lo lead you.  You can't tell them to become dry it just doesn't work like that.

I started potty training my little boy in January after he started at nursery.  The nursery have been really encouraging-always a good thing.  He still has accidents, but he can use a toilet. It's just laziness at times with my son or he gets preoccupied.

Hth. Zo x

PS: Oops post-edit-Forgot to add we started pt him at 2 years and 3 months old.

Taylor didn't start potty training till he was nearly 2 1/2... he just wasn't ready.. one day he was happy wearing his nappy, then next he wanted to use the potty...

Boys are usually late at potty training compaired to girls..

They will start when they are ready, its easy to try to push them in to training, but i have found if u do this it will take longer cause they are just not ready.

Isla still can't be bothered and shes three in september, however over the last few days she's been throwing major paddy strops to use the loo, and wanting her bum changed everytime she does a wee in her nappy.  So luckily the summer holidays (boo hiss) are going to be interestng.

Boys are generally slower at potty training than girls & i agree that you should let lo lead you

Ryans 14 months & has a potty which he doesnt mind sitting on with clothes on but the 2 times iv tried him with no nappy he seemed to panic a little so im not gonna force it, he knows its there & i also hav a board book about a boy & his potty which he loves

Ethan was potty trained about a week after his second birthday, if he hadn't have been ready though and taken to it so well i would have waited longer. I think every child is different and will only do it when they are ready. I know another boy who wasn't potty trained til after his third birthday but was dry both day and night as soon as he was potty trained.

I haven't got Ellie a potty yet, will probably buy one in a few months time so she can get used to sitting on it etc but won't start training her til she's ready.
