I went for my 6 weeks postnatal yesterday and the only thing she asked me about it what contraceptive I am using now. I told her I wanted to go on the pill though I wasn't dong anything that could cause pregnancy at the moment because we still live 250 miles apart. She said she couldn't give me the pill because I'm a smoker and advised that I have the coil fitted. I do not want the coil and refuse to be forced to have it. It took 15 minutes to persuade her I only wanted the pill and that it'd be better for me to have that before my sterilization date came through than risk another pregnancy. Eventually she caved in and prescribed me the pill.
I mentioned that I know my depression has returned and I wanted to treat it, again she said there was nothing availible as I'm a smoker. I coulodn't believe it, Ok I know smoking isn't good for me but hello...I've had the pills before and I've been a smoker for years. She again caved in eventually and prescribed me half my old 'lowest dose' as she said she wasn't willing to be held responsible if there's problems due to my smoking but I have to go back in 2 weeks to be reviewed. I was on 60mg in the end the last time I was on them though I started on 20mg, this time she's put me on just a 10mg dose. I'll be seeing a different doctor next time I go back.
I had no other checks, no weight check, no blood pressure taken or anything. I'm sure in the past I've had a full service after giving birth. I'm also well overdue for a smear and I mentioned it but she didn't seem interested as I've not yet had a period.

Jen get on the phone to your surgery now and ask for the next avaliable appt with a different doctor. That is ridculous! I was on all sorts of anti d's when I was a smoker - and the pill. I know it isnt ideal but its better than you being on nothing.
Get back to a different GP and talk through all your concerns.
(I had to do that as the GP I saw for my 6 week check was awful and didnt help me at all)

I'm back at the doctors tomorrow anyway for Aimee's 24-30 month assesment. I'll ask to speak to someone there. I didn't think it was right but then thought it was a sign of the times with all the changes.

As I said my doc was useless at my 6 week check. I had to ask her about contraception, and then keep pushing until I had all the info! I went back a week later, spoke to my normal GP and she handed me a pile of leaflets straight away and talked me through them all. Just goes to show.
I think my bp was taken ( but i had scarily low bp when I was pg) but I dont think they weigh you any more unless you ae very overweight and need to be watched.
However the depression thing should have been taken much more seriously! Have you done the edinburgh test yet? I was high risk and was monitored very closely - you should be too. Dont let them forget about you!

My weight should be monitored as I'm still too overweight. I know I've lost a lot since I became pregnant again but I'm sure it should have been checked. I've not yet had the PND test, I dont have a health visitor, I was seen at 10 days by a fill in but had nothing since then, even the baby clinic has different people there every week. It's all a big farse, my doctor has retired and getting an appointment with the 1 other decent doctor is almost impossible and there isn't a health visitor except during the baby clinic and the fill ins got a clue what they're doing as it's not their surgery.

Sounds like the doctor you saw was non-listening, too stricit & not flexible enough.
I have to go for the nearest available doctor appointment every time I go to the surgery! It's a different doctor every single time for me otherwise there's a 2 week wait for the one doctor I want to see.

I agree that you need to see another doc about this! I know smokings not good for you but I'm sure it doesn't affect that much medication! Anyway, if you do get down, you're more likely to smoke more anyway lol! Bet she was an ex-smoker! Glad she was persuaded! Although I'm not surewhat such a low dose of anti d will do. Hope you get on better next time.
At my 6 wk check, I think I had my bp taken, and was asked alsorts about Ben, feeding, sleeping ect. Not sure if that was because he was my first though. It's frustrating that coz you've had kids before that they just take it that you know what you're doing! As for not having a hv... thats terrible!!

Jen see MR Saxena. He is fantastic, and although I know its not ideal seeing a male dr about womens things he was a great dr to me when I had all my problems. He listens, he never rushes an appt, if you want to talk then he lets you! I really think you should get back and make an appt with him! (His wife is ok but I wouldnt opt for her if I had a choice of the practice lol) I would also get on to the HV and make sure you are seen. Is Veronica still there? Wouldnt she be your HV now?? What about the new young lass, has she taken maxine's case load? Whp's Aimee and Katies? Get along to clinic and insist you are given a HV (not that you want one or like any of them.. but you have to!)
Make sure you make an appt for you not just hope to see someone or you know you wont get seen!!

cheeky bint...smoking has nothing to do with it..might increase chances blah di blah but doesnt mean you cant have pills...grrrrrr.
My 6 week check was a bit different cos I had my discharge from RAF at the same time...now that was interesting...can you touch your toes...no bleeding chance couldnt do it before i was pg..sure as god made little apples cant do it now lol.
Go back and see another doc..i hate women doctors with a passion..much prefer bloke doctors cos they havent got a clue lol
