I have a daughter who is almost 2 in nov, after giving birth to her i got post natal depression it was quite severe.

Felt a strong urge to hurt myself got some help just in time though and got put on medication which in time did seem to help, but recently in the last few mnths have wanted to come off medication which tried to do myself cold turkey but had really bad side effects, now back on but the lowest dose there is.

Only have just found out am pregnant about a mnth but feel the same way i did when first got post natal, but feel like i am being horrible to my hubbie and my daughter just constant shouting at them.

Dont know what to do should i be on these tablets or not???

I'm not sure, the best advice would be from your GP.  If it's a low dose I know you can breastfeed with them, but not sure if they're ok in pregnancy.

Can you get a wee appointment tomorrow?  That'll put your mind at rest.

Welcome to madmums too by the way!  I'm Lynn and come from Lanarkshire, I've a boy of 5 and girl of 2 and am expecting twins in December.

Big hugs and let us all know how you get on.

Hi hun

Firstly i would like to say hi hun, it takes a lot to say help and i feel like pants! You have done the right thing. If you don't think these are helping go back to gp tomorrow and ask for a review of your medication, the change in your hormones might be the cause and there are many types out there and they know which ones are safe for pregnancy so don't worry about the effects on the wee one as they wouldn't be allowed to perscribe them if they were harmful in anyway.

I'm sure your dh and dd understand but you need to see your gp and ask for the review. It's never easy but your doing the right thing...

You're allowed to have low days and what not but please feel free to chat to us about anything any time.

Hope this has helped xxx

Hi and welcome to madmums, I'm Kim - and I suffered from PND after the birth of my son 4 years ago. Sorry that you are feeling bad at the moment. I agree - make an appointment with GP as soon as possible - they will be able to put you on the right medication while you are pregnant.

Remember, if you need to chat, there are lots of people on Madmums who will listen and understand. Let us know how you get on.

xxx

Hello hun. I think we have all been here at some point or another. I had pnd after having my twin girls 2 and a half years ago and i was the same as you are now. Just taking it out on everyone else. It took me a while though to go and see my gp and get help.

Like what people have said already go and see your gp for the best advice. Just remember you are very hormonal again though and pregnancy does weird things to us. How far gone are you? They say the first 12 weeks are the worse as your body is coping with new hormones. Let us know how you get on! xxxxxx

Hun

I would like to say oh crumbs, it's no wonder your feeling down. You have been though a awful lot, and at a time when your feeling really hormonal too.

I think you have been very strong and couragous supporting your friend though the loss of her son as you too will be greaving, this will also be another reason as to why you are noticing and kicking yourself maybe more than normal over any loss in temper.

Try not to worry and you can talk about the good stuff and the bad stuff on here hun, it's fab, you get reality checks like you wouldn't believe and sometimes the answers that have been hiding are found.

Still see your gp but your doing really well all things considered

Am so sorry to hear of your friend's loss - no wonder you feel upset. One of my close friends' dp died suddenly a few weeks ago - it really affects you when something like that happens. It is even worse when it's a child who dies.

Your hormones will be all over the place anyway with being pregnant, nevermind dealing with your friend's loss as well. Definitely see your GP and have a chat.

Thinking about you.

xxx

I suffered with post natal depression after both of my children. And have now been diagnosed with ante natal depression too in this pregnancy. I personally refused any medication and will only turn to them as a last resort. I get help from Health visitors and get counselling which is helping me manage it. I spoke to my Gp who arranged a counsellor and also spoke to my Hv who arranged regular home visits for support. My midwives also know and check up on me regularly, either by visit or phone. It also helped me that my partner is 'in the know'. As my Hv sat him down and explained it too him.
Not sure if that helps! Take care.

Hi there, xx. I'm Hazel and have 3 kids. Bex is 16, Sophie is 5 and Aam is 2 and 1/2.

I suffered from PND with Sophie and then I fell pregnant again with Adam and had ante-natal as well as PND with him too.

With everything happening in your life, it's no wonder it's all getting a bit much for you. Talk to your GP as soon as you can because the sooner you get started with some help, the better for you and your family. Don't beat yourself up about feeling this way either, xxxxxx.
