Help!

My Toddler stubbed his toe at nursery a couple of days ago.  Since then it has blistered blood and he took to picking at it. There was no stopping him-he became quite obsessed by it.

That was bad enough, bu then tonight he dropped his beaker on it and now it's a bloody pulp.  He screamed for high heaven and was inconsolable for half an hour.

He won't let me near his foot, I can't even clean it up - I'm scared it'll get infected.

I'm dreading getting him ready in the morning for fear of starting him off again.

Should I take him to the nurse tomorrow or leave it?

Cant you try the 'magic water' approach to try clean it up, and get a finger/toe bandage and some surgical tape to fasten it on, make it like an adventure, and maybe buy some cartoon plasters to put on top of the bandage so he likes it. If he wont let you clean it you may need to pop him off to see a nurse so that between you you can hold him down and clean t up. Poor little thing :o( Hope it heals quickly xxx

Tried all of the above-he really is stubborn and refuses to let me near it.  It must really hurt.

Think I'll keep an eye on it and decide in the morning.

Thanks for the advice.

Can you not just put him in the bath and let the toe soak itself clean in there?  If it's as much a mess as you say yes he needs to have it seen to prevent infection.

It's infected, Hazy.

Mum took him to the doctor who was fantastic, apparently, and Tom was the model patient (typical!).

It's got a plaster on it and he's on antibiotics.  He's a lot more cheery.

Thanks for asking.
