Short of it is they are saying that new research has come out which shows that Ibuprofen is better than paracetemol at reducing fever in children

I just wondered( most of us having all been there at one stage) what your experiences were and what worked best for you

Personally I find Medised to be the best for my girls if they are poorly or have a temperature but know people who don't rate it at all - I think its different for everyone

I use medised if eds has a snotty cold.

However with fevers I have found Nurofen to be better than Calpol.

With a bad fever I overlap the two so he is getting more regualar doses (on the gps advice)

in all honesty i have rarely used medicine with bronze,i used calpol a few times when she was a baby but didnt find it had that much of an effect really,never tried anything else xxx

I use Medised if Ols has a cold or high temperature. If he has a low grade temperature and is under the weather I used calpol. We don't have ibuprofen in the house as Keith is severly allergic to it and I can't take NSAIDS due to UC. I don't want to risk an adverse affect on Ols when he is already ill when there are other medicines that work just as well on him.

I dont have any ibrufen products for Joshua, nor do I use Medised (or some other childrens medicines). Joshua used to have respiritory reactions when taking these medicines, and so I just dont give them, although Im told now his RSV is no longer an problem he should be ok. Like Lauren, I dont regulary use medicine so I just dont see the point in getting it in to try if ever the need was there. I dont always have calpol in tbh, probably some sachets in a drawer but I use it so little I need to buy a new bottle each time. If he has a temperature then I use the calpol, or if he is in pain, but for bugs and things I just keep him well hydrated and try feeding warm foods to keep him comfortable.

I tend to use Calpol, it's always worked for mine both in lowering their temperature and making them more comfortable. We did have Calprofen in the cupboard, but Jess tried it once, and has refused to have it ever since (I tried it, to see what she was fussing about and it really does taste revolting lol)

I read my answer back and it sounds like I am anti brufen which I am not just really cautious in our household. I can take it but it flares my UC up so am advised not to. As Keith is allergic I just didn't want to risk it with Ols. If it is thought to be better at controlling a temperature in children though I might consider it. I guess the thing that puts me off is I know paracetamol is tried and tested, works and is safe. When I was little Aspirin was the drug of choice for childrens fevers and of course you now can't give it to children as it was proved to be harmful, although I have to say my brother and I seem to have survived taking it. I expect as medicines become more sophisticated there will be new ones in the future. We are fortunate with Ols as well he has only ever had I think 3-4 colds and one dose of D&V in 3 1/2 years so haven't had to use much at all on him.
