Hey Ladies,

Just need your help with a little something.
For the last couple of weeks, well months actually.. I've been very bloated, especially in the evenings looking like im 4-5 months pregnant at times. And recently my stomach has started to really ache, so i went to the chemist to ask if there was anything i could take to relieve it a bit.
I've put it down to being on the Depo injection as bloating is a common side effect, but just wanted to see if anything would help.

They have gave me Buscopan, which is an Irriatable Bowel Syndrome medication, and it says on the packet only to take them if IBS has been medically confimed?

I've only taken one or 2 a day, instead of the 3 to 4 they recommend, and they have helped alot, but should i be taking these, without my doctors ok?
I dont want to cause more harm than good.
Thanks everyone.

Hun i'd personally take them but book an appointment to see your gp on monday and tell him what you told the chemist, their advice and what you are taking.... then put the ball in his court.

Either that or ring up NHS direct and see what they suggest.

You're not supposed to take any medication for lengths of time without your GP knowing, and recommending it. The pharmacist wouldn't have sold them to you if they weren't safe to take, and as they are helping then they are obviously working or doing something. I would, however, think about going to see the GP. You have been on them a good number of weeks, which is considerably more than recommended for self medicating. It may be that the GP wants you to continue taking them, but its best to check. There maybe a medication more suitable for you, or you may be on the wrong dosage.

I agree with the others and would go and see the gp. DD was given buscopan not long ago by gp for acute stomach pain and only told to take them for a couple of weeks so not sure how long you should be on them so would be worth checking with gp incase there is something better you could be taking

Thanks ladies,
I've only been taking them since Friday, so as they've helped loads already, i'll go and see my GP to have a chat with him then.

Sorry I read it as you were on them for weeks, months hehe It is probably still best to get the dosage checked, and get medical diagnosis of whats causing it.

Hi Amanda! Hope you're feeling ok. Have you made an appointment with GP to check about dose etc?
